NEWS FROM THE GW CANCER CENTERGW-News
Did you know that aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States? October represents an annual opportunity to focus on breast cancer prevention, screening and treatment through evidence-informed social media messaging. The GW Cancer Center's Breast Cancer Awareness Month Social Media Toolkit, newly updated for 2017, can help you establish a social media strategy, effectively communicate with your audience and raise awareness around this important issue.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a great time for providers to brush up on their knowledge about caring for survivors as well as late and long term side effects of treatment. The Cancer Survivorship E-Learning Series for Primary Care Providers features a module on clinical follow-up care guidelines for prostate cancer as well as more general information about meeting the needs of survivors across the care continuum. Get started today!

Have you planned your strategy for Liver Cancer Awareness Month coming up in October? Don't worry, we've got you covered. The GW Cancer Center's Viral Hepatitis and Liver Cancer Social Media Toolkit has basic information about viral hepatitis and liver cancer, key points on at-risk groups as well as messaging to address some of the most common barriers to prevention and treatment.

There's still time to apply for the Together-Equitable-Accessible-Meaningful (TEAM) training program! Applications are being accepted until September 22nd, but early applications are welcome and encouraged. Learn more about the program or apply today.

Georgia State Law to Promote Palliative Care
Too few cancer patients in Georgia receive palliative care and support from the time of diagnosis through survivorship. To address this gap, the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium's (GC3) Palliative Care Work Group led and supported the development of a state law that would establish a Palliative Care Council. As a result, Georgia House Bill HB 509 went into effect in July 2016. The law created the Georgia Palliative care and Quality of Life Advisory Council to provide advice about state palliative care initiatives and to educate the public, health care providers and health care facilities about palliative care.
