Working Together Helps Ensure All Our Kids Succeed
Pronouncements may make headlines, but truly helping kids succeed takes collaboration.
CONCORD, September 7, 2017 - As this school year begins, we find ourselves debating the Governor's idea to change the start date of classes.

"We'd like to think that we're all pulling in the same direction when it comes helping our children succeed, but, to our knowledge, the Governor did not reach out to public school teachers at all before making such a sweeping proposal," said Megan Tuttle, NEA-New Hampshire President..

To be clear, If the Governor is interested in a meaningful dialog to improve public education that involves changing the length of the school year or school day, later starting times, how best to utilize the time we are given to teach, or how many days can be reclaimed as teaching days with the elimination of standardized testing, we'd be happy to engage in such a discussion. Because we know that changes like these aimed at helping our kids succeed take time to discuss, evaluate and implement.

"Pronouncements may make headlines, but truly helping kids succeed takes collaboration," said Tuttle.

About NEA-New Hampshire
NEA-New Hampshire is the largest union of public employees in the state. Founded in 1854, the New Hampshire State Teachers Association became one of the "founding ten" state education associations that formed the National Education Association in 1857. Known today as NEA-NH, and comprised of more than 17,000 members, our mission to advocate for the children of New Hampshire and public school employees, and to promote lifelong learning, remains true after more than 150 years. Our members are public school employees in all stages of their careers, including classroom teachers and other certified professionals, staff and instructors at public higher education institutions, students preparing for a teaching career, education support personnel and those retired from the profession.
