The staff was welcomed back on Tuesday morning with a breakfast sponsored by Lincoln Financial Group. Following breakfast staff filtered into the auditorium to uplifting music to get the energy up for another new year.
Superintendent Loretta Radulic and Board of Education Vice President Patricia Miller greeted staff and shared inspirational goals to strive for balance and perspective this year which was followed by the keynote speaker Dr. Debbie Silver, author of Fall Down 7 Times Get up 8, Teaching Kids to Thrive, and Deliberate Optimism. Silver spent 30 years as a teacher, staff development instructor, and university professor, and has given presentations around the world.
She shared her inspirational stories and practical strategies while the audience was in constant laughter. Roxbury Athletic Director Expects Great Year for Gaels
Roxbury High School sports fans can look forward to another year of high-level competition even though the school lost many star players to graduation in June, said athletic director Stuart Mason.
It's a concern that rises often - the fear that the departure of talented senior athletes will leave a team bereft of competitiveness. But, more often than not, new names rise to the top as the next season unfolds.
Having watched many of this year's Roxbury teams prepare for their season premieres, Mason said he and his colleagues are optimistic. We're really excited about the student athletes we have this year," he said. "The coaches and athletes have been working very hard all summer and I think it's going to be a great fall."
