The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us, "To everything there is a season," and for many of us, the coming of fall means "Back to School Season." When I was a child, this was one of my favorite times of the year. I loved the sense of preparation; I looked forward to seeing school friends I had not seen over the summer; I even liked back to school shopping: new shoes, a new lunchbox, new notebooks and school supplies. When I was teaching, I had the same feelings. Now, as I am completing preparations for the upcoming church school year, those feelings remain. There is a sense of anticipation, of new possibilities. I have been working getting classrooms ready, and as I look around the empty rooms, I imagine them filled with children and teachers, discovering new things about themselves and about the God who made them. I am feeling that same familiar sense of excitement as I look forward to seeing the classrooms buzzing once again, to hearing the voices of the children and their parents and teachers in the hallways. I think no matter how old I get, I will always get a thrill over the beginning of the new school year.
So here we are, about ready to kick off a new program year at Trinity. Church School classrooms are ready, plans are in place for our youth program, the Choir and Choristers are back from Choir Camp and preparing for worship, adult formation offerings are being introduced. We're excited about what we have planned, and even more excited about what God will do with those plans to bring about God's purpose for the good of the Kingdom.
So join us this Sunday in the Forum during education hour as we gather together to learn about some of the exciting offerings in Christian formation this year. Formation ministry leaders from Children's and Youth Ministries, Choristers, and Adult Formation will share some of what is being planned for the year. There will be time for questions and conversation, and a chance to sign up to get more involved. Christian formation is a lifelong process - there is always more to learn and there is always room to grow as we walk with God.
It's a wonderful journey - come and walk with us.
