Hurricane Relief for Children

Our hearts go out to all those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The destruction created by the storm impacted a large number of group residential organizations that provide homes and treatment for children in the care of Child Protective Services.  More than 1,000 children were evacuated from the Houston area and have taken refuge in shelters, churches and other safe locations.

Dallas CASA has offered to visit children who have been displaced by Harvey's wrath. Working with our colleagues in the statewide network, we will leverage the resources of Dallas CASA volunteers to ensure that any child relocated to north Texas will be seen face to face by a trained advocate.
North Texas Giving Day Sept. 14

Join us on our blog this week and next week as we tell you about Adrian and Anna, two children who navigated foster care with a CASA volunteer by their sides. Their story is different from many in foster care because they had a CASA volunteer making sure their voices were heard.

After you read their story, join us September 14 to make a difference for children like Adrian and Anna on North Texas Giving Day, an annual 18-hour online giving drive for North Texas nonprofits. This year donors have the option to act early. All gifts starting September 7 will be processed September 14.
Champion of Children Award Dinner Coming in November

We hope to see you at the Dallas CASA Champion of Children Award Dinner Nov. 16 at The Fairmont. Dallas CASA will present the Judge Barefoot Sanders Champion of Children Award to the Junior League of Dallas for its dedication to children in our community particularly vulnerable victims of child abuse and neglect.

Our guest speaker is Dallas CASA's own Jackie Davis, a former foster child who is now a volunteer supervisor at Dallas CASA.  "Through it all I had my CASA volunteer. Caseworkers changed, homes changed, attorneys changed, but she was my CASA volunteer and stayed. She was always happy, always glad to see me, always ready with her arms flung wide and her hands flipped just so for a hug that somehow embraced my body and soul. She brought light into my darkest places."  Read more about the dinner at My Sweet Charity .
