Arts & Crafts at Oakland Chinatown StreetFest
August 27, 2017 

The Port's booth was a fun place for art, crafts, games and Port information at the Oakland Chinatown StreetFest. Volunteers from the Port, Asian Employees Association, Lincoln Square Boy Scouts Troop 201, and Lincoln Elementary School partnered together to help kids make paper lanterns and fidget spinners! For everyone, there was Plinko, a fun game of chance.
 

Port Helps Local Companies Enter Global Shipping Business

At the California Black Chamber of Commerce's Business and Economic Summit & Women's Symposium in Oakland, Port Maritime Marketing and Commodities Representative Ron Brown moderated a panel of trade experts, giving small and local businesses a course in exporting local products. In addition, the Port's Social Responsibility Division provided on-site certification for small and local businesses. 
     

Legislative Panel Discussion with Port's Summer Interns

The Port's Government Affairs  interns , Molly Curley O'Brien and Jack Wellman, arranged the Path to Civic Engagement Panel for Port Summer Interns. They heard from professionals in government and politics, and how their  internship experiences  helped guide them to their positions today. 

Special thanks to our esteemed guest panelists: Michelle Thomas-Shaw, Legislative Director, Office of Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley; Jose Hernandez, Senior Congressional Aide, Office of US Congresswoman Barbara Lee; Jamila English, Senior Policy Analyst and Community Liaison, Office of City of Oakland; Councilmember Annie Campbell Washington; Brandon Baranco, Senior Field Representative, Office of State Assemblymember Tony Thurmond; and Michael J. Community Harbor Tour Day

The Port hosted a Community Harbor Tour Day and invited our local community groups and the individuals they serve  for a close-up look at how the Oakland seaport works.

Girls Inc. Behind the Scenes at Oakland Airport

The  Port  of  Oakland  and Women's Transportation Seminar ( WTS ) enjoyed hosting  Girls Inc.  of Alameda County for a Day of  Aviation  Career Exploration at Oakland International  Airport (OAK) . The girls toured OAK, the Airport Fire Station,  Southwest  Airlines, and the Oakland Aviation Museum. In addition, Port and WTS role models shared their educational and career experiences and helped the girls to create a career map to achieve their goals.

     

Port Supports Early Math Skills Development at 
the East Bay CIRCle Labs
July 2017
 
Port employees and summer interns supported early math skills development through educational activities with 3rd to 5th graders at the East Bay CIRCle Labs. These activities are a partnership between the Emeryville Parks & Recreation Department, the East Bay YMCA, the Institute for STEM Education at Cal State East Bay, Community Resources for Science, and Tech Exchange.

East Creek Slough or Middle Harbor Shoreline Park 
September 16, 2017
 
Join us for our annual 2017 California Coastal Cleanup Day at East Creek Slough on Saturday, September 17, 2017 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm or Middle Harbor Shoreline Park from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. 

Volunteers will help cleanup trash and debris to beautify our local waterways.
