Greetings Eagle Chapter Members and Friends!

On this day in 2011, a contingent of US Air Force Security Forces ruck marched into New York City to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the patriots who died on 9/11.

The graphic above, shows the vision that began with Technical Sergeant Kenneth Broughman, 4th Security Forces Squadron Seymour Johnson Air Force Base NC.  He shared his vision US Air Forces Ruck March to Remember 9/11 with his command, the MAJCOM, and it really took off . The march began at the Air Force Security Forces Center and would end at Ground Zero - New York City with a planned wreath laying at Shanksville PA along the way.  The photo above shows the final contingent in New York City.

There was one issue with the plan. There was not going to be a wreath laying at the Pentagon due to the challenges of organizing a march through the DC traffic.  We convinced them that since Andrews had to travel pass the Pentagon to rendezvous with the Seymour Johnson team, we could have a wreath laying at the Pentagon.  HQ USAF Top Cop, led the Andrews team.  As shown below following the wreath laying at the Pentagon, then Brig Gen Jimmy McMillian and one of our Proud Warriors, Staff Sergeant Logan, joined me prior to their rendezvous with Seymour.  It was remarkable to see Sergeant Logan participating in this event, we had just visited Sergeant Logan at Walter Reed earlier that year when he lost part of his leg due to stepping on an IED.

You'll note that every participant that walked into New York City has a Defensor Fortis flag. Initially, our plan was to provide a DF flag for all of the units that we supported, Andrews, Dover, and Langley.  We then decided that with additional help, we could provide Defensor Fortis flags to all participants.

The above photo occurred at the first transfer point in Eagle Country when the Seymour Johnson team transferred the Defensor Fortis Guido to the Langley Team.  Since the transfer occurred in downtown Amherst VA, city deputy mayor, other city officials plus local law enforcement participated in the event.  Your Eagle Chairman with our then Vice Chair, Tidewater Wing Bill Scouten, were on hand to hand out the flags.

At the transfer below from Andrews to the Dover team, we gave the remaining flags for them to transfer them to the Dix-McGuire Team for eventual placement with all teams through to New York City.

It was my pleasure to be on hand at each transfer points in Eagle Country. In order to buy flags for all 400+ participants, the three wreaths, we needed help in raising the almost $3,000 needed.  Boy, did you come through!  I take this opportunity to again thank our individual donors, HQ AFSFA and the following chapters that pitched in to make this an association success story: Oklahoma Heartland Chapter, Pete Magwood Chapter, Space Coast Chapter, Billie Renfroe Chapter, Gateway Chapter, Evergreen Chapter, Alamo Chapter, Sacramento Chapter, Ark-La-Tex Chapter, A1C Millard Lehman Chapter, San Diego Chapter, and the California Inland Empire.

On behalf of our chapter, I take this opportunity to thank those that continue to protect our great nation, our communities both here in-country and afar as we remember those who perished years ago on that 9/11 fateful day.

     Thank-you for your continuing support.

Very respectfully,

Lee

Eagle Chapter's Next USAF SF 20th Anniversary Celebratory Luncheon - Dover Air Force Base DE
With great pleasure, we are delighted to announce that Colonel Randy L. Boswell, Commander of the 436th Mission Support Group, Dover Air Force Base, Del, will be our keynote speaker for the Eagle Chapter luncheon at the Landings Club at Dover DE on September 26, 2017.

We are also delighted to have the great support of Lt Col Mike Morales, 436th Security Forces Squadron commander, and his staff to partner with us in making this luncheon event.  I cannot emphasize the importance of that unit point of contact.  Master Sergeant Kevin Veneman is our lead at Dover who will be orchestrating this event with all activities at Dover.

Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Daryl Janicki, one of the architects of the creation of the Security Forces career field back in 1997, has expressed his intent to speak at all chapter celebration luncheons this year.  We are still coordinating his participation as of this writing.

We will provide all of the freebies that are unique to this year's celebration luncheons for all attendees, i.e., Defensor Fortis flag with a special Eagle Chapter 20th anniversary streamer, an inscribed, commemorative pen combo LED flashlight embedded, plus the special program and a delicious anniversary cake.

This luncheon will be free to all Tech Sergeants and below. The chapter will be making our annual donations to the 436th SF Booster Club and the 436 SF Key Spouse Club. WeI hope to see you there!!!

Reminder: Eagle Chapter Celebrates 20th Anniversary USAF SF Luncheon at the Pentagon on October 10

Lt Gen Stayce Harris, Assistant Vice Chief of Staff, HQ USAF is our keynote speaker to close out our 20th Anniversary Celebration of the US Air Force Security Forces. At left, Gen Stayce accepts the Eagle Chapter Coin following 2016 Veterans Day Ceremonies at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington VA.

Brigadier General Andrea Tullos, the Air Force Top Cop informed me that she now has a conflict but Chief Master Sergeant Tamala Hartz, our SF Career Field Manager, will be in attendance. Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Daryl Janicki will also speak as one of the architects of the "new" combined security forces career field.

We have volunteers from the HQ USAF SF staff that will coordinate all escort requirements.  We will provide the phone number to call as well as RSVP requirements to enter the Pentagon when we get closer to the event.

Raffle tickets are still available:  Sig Sauer P320 Nitron Carry 9MM

Sig Sauer P320 Nitron Carry

Other than being at an Eagle Chapter luncheon, the easiest way to obtain raffle tickets for this weapon is to go online and order them from the Eagle Exchange. You can also send a money order to our Post Office Box.

This raffle provides the fourth event in our celebration of the 20th Anniversary of our Air Force Security Forces.

By the time you read this, we will have sent an email to all raffle ticket purchasers.  If you have a raffle ticket and you do not see an email at the email address that you used to purchase your tickets, please let me know. Your email may not be working for us.

A few notes about this raffle:

1. Eagle Chapter did not buy the weapon.  Sig Sauer donated the weapon by issuing the chapter a certificate that authorizes the winner of the raffle to claim the weapon. Once we hold the raffle, we provide the certificate to the winner and they will coordinate with Sig Sauer to claim their weapon which includes two 17 round magazines.

2. Tickets can be purchased until Oct 10 at 2359PM/1159PM.

3.  We will allow an additional few days for mail to arrive at our PO box and hold the raffle on Oct 14.

4. The certificate to claim the weapon is not transferrable.  If you want your grandson, spouse or other to have the weapon, they'll need to take their chances in the raffle.

Start at the Eagle Exchange to find more information including the detail rules of engagement and more information about the specs of the weapon. Click here to get to the exchange.
Eagle Chapter Closes Out our Final Wall Wash at the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial in Washington DC on Aug 26

Last spring when we kicked off our wall wash series at the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial in Washington DC, someone asked, "Lee where is the coffee?" In the Spring, we expanded our sponsorship to include free bottled water and donuts.  With that bit of prodding about the coffee, last month we provided the coffee, too.  I think by the expression of one of our volunteers above, that was a huge success!  :-)

This year, Col (Ret) Mel Grover and Ken Neal of the USAF Security Forces Museum in San Antonio TX participated with us. Below, Col Grover with his wife pointed to the names of the Airmen who died while he served in Vietnam.  In his honor, this panel was his to wash.

I can't express my appreciation enough to CMSgt (Ret) Gary Jones who travels up here from Charleston SC for each wash.  He co-leads the devotion service that precedes each event with our own, Jim Stastny, Chaplain with the Vietnam Security Police Association and Eagle Chapter Member.

To Bob Sherouse, our boy scout coordinator, it just would not be an event without our scouts!  We greatly appreciate you and the family members who come along to participate. Bob thank-you.
The Staudmyer Triplets: Boy Scout Wall Wash Veterans Earn Eagle Scout

Back in 2004 when we started our Wall Wash at the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial in Washington DC, that was the first year that our boy scouts participated - much thanks to Eagle Member Ed Erslev.

Over the years, we've grown up with these scouts who still return to help in this labor of love.  Recently, we discovered that three of our scouts - the Staudmyer Triplets have earned Eagle Scouts.  I'm happy to pass on an article that was written to honor them in this achievement as they prepare to go off to college.

The Streak Ends! AF 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year - This Year No Security Forces Airman

In September 2003, in the above photo, Eagle Chairman, Lee Chambers with Tech Sergeant James Coffee (to Lee's right) with his wife, commander and unit members celebrate Jim's recognition at the AF 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year Dinner.  Jim was one of two SF Airmen to be recognized as one of the Air Force's 12. The other SF Airman, Staff Sergeant Omar Ali Abed, earned his spot as an SF reservist.

Recognizing these Airmen were a win-win for us.  In the photo below where Eagle Board Member, Kathy Wojciechowski, joined SF Master Sergeant Tessa Fontaine (2d from left) and her family as they celebrated at the annual dinner.  Sergeant Fontaine would later join me in a Proud Warrior luncheon where as chairman, I would take the SF Airmen that were med-evaced to Walter Reed once a month to eat where ever they wanted.  MSgt Fontaine was a local winner at one of the agencies who joined me at one of our luncheons.  See her at the link.

I didn't know at the time that this would become an annual Eagle Chapter tradition.  The following years there would be one to two SF Airmen who would be recognized among the Air Force's 12.

We grew our annual recognition program with the participation of the Oklahoma Heartland Chapter and the Pete Magwood Chapter (Albuquerque, NM) to include three year memberships in AFSFA, an Eagle Chapter coin, Defensor Fortis flags, and letters of appreciation.

This year, no cops. This is an extraordinarily, highly competitive award. We congratulate these Airmen for the awesome feat of being recognized as one of the Air Force's 12. Next year, we look forward to the return of the SF in starting a new streak!

In closing, a special thanks to the 436 Group Commander Col Boswell for stepping in to help us celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the AF SF at Dover.  Huge thanks again to one of our behind the scenes supporters at Dover - a special thanks to Ms. Betty Vane, the 436th Airlfit Wing Commander's secretary, and also to the Wing Commander, Col Ethan Griffin, for his support.

Also thank-you to Lt Gen Harris for her and her exec's support as we look forward to our Pentagon luncheon.  We've experienced great support at every venue.

I so look forward to seeing many of you at Dover. For those Eagle Members in the DC area, come on up. We're actually closer to Dover than we are to Langley!  I hope to see you there.

Rachel and Karl, I'll have your articles in the next issue.  Thank-you for the photos.

Thanks

Very best regards,
