Bullying Defined

This is a nationwide issue that schools are
attempting to clarify and bring awareness in
order to stop this activity from occurring in our
schools. A commonly accepted definition for
bullying is: "A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending him or herself."

This definition includes three important
components:
 Bullying is aggressive behavior that
involves unwanted, negative actions.
 Bullying involves a pattern of intentional
behavior repeated over time.
 Bullying involves an imbalance of power
or strength.

Bullying is NOT an honest mistake, an
isolated incident, a lapse in judgment or a conflict between friends. Friends are going to disagree, argue and possibly say unkind things. This does not constitute bullying behavior. We must teach healthy ways to address disagreements, conflicts and hurt feelings. It is important for teenagers to understand that conflict is normal and healthy in relationships and should be handled respectfully.  Learning to handle conflict appropriately maintains the integrity of the relationship. When addressing conflict appropriately it allows students the opportunity to discuss a situation instead of trying to hurt the other person.

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our
friends." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What should parents of teenagers know, do, and say about bullying? The advice in this guide will help you and your high schooler discuss and deal with this challenging
topic.   Read more...

Table Tennis

We are starting a table tennis club this year at Cooper.  Once we have the necessary equipment, the club will meet every other Friday at 3:00 outside the large gym.  There will be a $10 equipment fee for all members who wish to join the club, which covers nets, balls and extra paddles.  We are looking for ways to fundraise to purchase tables, however, if you or anyone in your family has an old table tennis table that they would like to donate to our club that would be more ideal.  If you need a donation letter confirming your donation for tax purposes, please contact our financial secretary, Ms. Becky Rogers.

For more information about the club please contact the club sponsor  Mr. Gregory Tieke.

Go! Pantry Food Drive

Boone County Schools and our Boone County Education Association is partnering with a Boone County outreach organization, Go! Pantry for a food drive to provide food to Boone County's neediest kids.

Each school level has certain foods to donate. High schools  are challenged to donate applesauce and fruit cups (cups or squeeze pouch).

Go Pantry is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing food for Boone County kids in need on days in which school is not open.  Cooper's FCCLA club will be collecting during all 6th period classes.  VP of Community Service, student Kaitlyn Shipp, is in charge of this event along with teachers, Sarah Steffen and Caylen Knight.

The class that has the most donations by the end of the week will win a pizza party for their 6th period class!

The donation drive begins Monday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Sept. 15th.  Let's bring in those items to help those in the most need within our own county!

Canvas Parent App

This school year, our teachers are utilizing a learning management system called Canvas. There is a Canvas App that students can download or it can be accessed via boone.instructure.com . A student's username is  their first name.last name and their password is the last 4 #s of their social security number twice.

There is also a Canvas Parent Portal App which  allows parents to view student courses, grades, assignments, and events, and to set alerts for specific assignments and grade activities. Parents can use the Canvas Parent app on all iOS and Android devices.

A website describing the Canvas Parent App has been created. (Click below)

This site contains a video which will guide parents on the installation and usage of the app. In order to complete the setup of the app, parents will need to obtain their student's login (how he/she accesses Canvas) from your student.

If you have questions about Canvas or the Canvas Parent Portal App, please e-mail our instructional coach - Mr. Butch Hamm.

IC Messenger Bug

There is currently a bug within the Infinite Campus messenger system resulting in the system sending out duplicate messages regarding missing assignments. This can result in you receiving messages that your student is missing an assignment in multiple classes, when your student may only have one missing assignment in one class. Infinite Campus is working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

If you have any concern about missing assignments, please check with the individual classroom teacher via email and they can confirm missing work.
