Welcome Back Service & Picnic

This coming Sunday, the 9:30AM service rejoins the 8:00AM service at the Church on t he Hill. We will be celebrati ng the ministry of Elizabe th and Richard Clemmitt.  Richard is celebrating 25 years working as organist/choirmaster and Elizabeth has been working with our youngest choristers for 21 years.  Many former choristers will be returning to sin g. Our celebration for the Clemmitts will come at the end of the service.

The Welcome Back Picnic follows on the patio and in the McClain Room. Join us to meet our newest members and re-connect with those you know. We'll grill the hot dogs and brats and Mary Jo McMillin will bake 2 special cakes in honor of the Clemmitts. You provide the snacks, fruit, and salads. Simply leave your items on the buffet in the McClain Room before the 9:30 service.

Please email Darlene at [email protected] or call or text her at 847-922-8053 to let her know what you would like to bring. Thanks so much and see you there!
Compline
 5:30PM Time Change
Please join us this Sunday for our first Compline service of the school year.
Held largely  by candlelight, this forty-minute liturgy offers pause from the hectic pace of our lives. Many peaceful moments of prayer and quiet, a spoken meditation by one of our priests, lovely music provided by a small group of professional choristers, and Communion from the Reserved Sacrament are included.
We'd love to have you with us!

All our Sunday evening services this year: Compline, Evensong, and Taizé
will be at 5:30PM.

Monday Book Group
Our first meeting for the fall is Sept. 11! Book Group meets every Monday morning, 11:00-12:00 in the McClain Room. Our fall book is The Sign and the Sacrifice by Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and author, about the meaning of the cross and resurrection, what these events meant to early followers and what they say to us today. We are so looking forward to welcoming new members, so do think about joining us! Any questions, contact Melissa Durbin, [email protected].
Farewell Reception for Leah
Please join us on Sunday, September 17 after the 9:30 service for a reception in her honor.  Leah has been called to be the Youth Minister of St. Paul's in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where Jeanne Leinbach is Rector. Leah has been with us for four years.  Leah also plans to pursue ordination to the priesthood and is planning on entering seminary once she enters her new diocesan ordination process.
Children Helping Other Children
For the third year in a row, busy mom and teacher, Emily Horvath, and sons, Drew and Austin, have shopped for school supplies for the children of Revive Center.  Emily, Austin and Drew pick out school new supplies especially for each child at Revive and then organize them all into brand new backpacks donated to Christ Church by Target.  "We thought it was fun to help people," said Drew Horvath, 10.  "I liked figuring out which backpack each kid would like and packing the backpacks," said Austin Horvath, 8.  Revive Center provides permanent supportive housing and provides other support services to address homelessness in Chicago.  Said Revive's coordinator, Nathaniel Jamison-Root, "The kids all loved getting new school supplies and are excited to put them to good use.... Thanks so much!"
