New quilt, Southern Lights
|
A week that began with the wonder of a solar eclipse across the nation drawing us together, looking skyward with wonder ended with the destructive side of nature with hurricane Harvey striking Texas. Once again, we are drawn together but this time with the desire to help. Please read my
blog with suggestions of what we quilters can do.
Here in the states, this is the Labor Day weekend which unofficially hails the end of summer. I find myself already looking forward to the cooler, dryer air and the beautiful colors of autumn. I also find that the fall brings a renewed interest in quilting for us all.
With that in mind, we have a
new schedule of classes for the coming months. Plus, we will be working hard on preparing for our shop hop,
Quilters' Quest, in November. If you missed it, click

New Malam V Batiks
|
 I am so excited to introduce my fifth collection of batiks with 39 new fabrics. As in the past, I have expanded on the existing batiks by introducing many new lights in addition to brights, deep darks and earth tones. I love the way they coordinate with my previous batik collections.

Southern Lights
|
 Named after the dramatic and colorful auroras of the Antarctic Circle, my new
Southern Lights quilt features fabrics from my Amber Waves collection along with a mini-stripe and Casablanca border print to create a dramatic eight-pointed star. The two colorways, red and teal, mimic the glowing colors found in the auroras.

On-the-Go Zippered Pouch
|
 A member of my staff, Kelley, loves to make bags and has designed for us this cute pouch using the license plate from this year's Row by Row Experience along with the Flying Geese motif from our shop's row.
The pouch measures 10" x 7" x 2" and can hold countless items such as
sewing supplies, pens and pencils, cables, eye glasses, electronics, toiletries, medications, and more!
The complete kit includes all the fabrics to make the pouch plus the license plate, zipper, and fusible fleece.

New Ruler from Quilters Select and Alex Anderson
|
When my friend Alex Anderson sent me one of her rulers from Quilters Select I could understand what all of the raves were about. I have always had problems with rulers slipping on me while cutting but this ruler wouldn't budge a bit!
The ruler measures 6" x 12" with lines every 1/8". They are very easy to read plus there are markings for multiple angles. The one inch lines have two sets of corresponding numbers allowing you to read left to right and right to left - you never have to count backwards!

Moroccan Mystery News

I have been thrilled to hear from many of you about how much you are enjoying the mystery quilt. I am amazed that you are sharing pictures of each completed step just hours after the clue is revealed. The final clue will be in the October newsletter and I thought it would be fun to offer a prize in honor of your diligent work.
 After clue 9 is released on October 7, you will have 48 hours, until 5:30 pm EST, Monday, October 9th, to submit a photo of your finished
Moroccan Mystery quilt top. From these, we will choose at random from all the correctly finished quilt tops, five winners. Each winner will receive a fat quarter bundle of all five of my new
mini-stripe fabrics.

Moroccan Mystery - Clue 8
|
You are almost there! You've been fussy-cutting, appliquéing, piecing curves and joining multiple points. This month you will be working on inset seams but don't worry; they are easier than they look.
