We are still looking for someone to create our Scoop and Sunday Program each week. For now, these weekly publications will be sparse and may not happen. Keep your fingers crossed that we can find someone soon!

RE Corner

The Religious Education (RE) team is excited to start a new year!  Visit the RE pages on the FUSW website for complete information and updates throughout the year.

You can participate in nurturing the faith formation of our children and youth!  We need your participation.  It takes a community to offer meaningful and robust Religious Education.  We cannot offer RE for children and youth without you.  We are looking for team members for two classes focused on world religions and neighboring faiths. This is a wonderful way for adults to share religious and spiritual traditions with which you are familiar. Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Earth-Centered/Paganism, Christianity, Indigenous Spirituality, Taoism, Hinduism and more - the 2nd-5th grade Passport to Spirituality and the 6th-8th grade Neighboring Faiths classes would love to hear from you!  Classes include learning and discussion, guest speakers, and visits to houses of worship and other holy sites.  RE team members would love to talk with you at Ingathering Water Communion this Sunday!  You can also e-mail Jen, Carolyn, Irene, April, Craig or Tracy to volunteer.

Families, you should have received the RE News on Monday with information about the coming year. (If you did not receive the RE News, e-mail Tracy.)  It's time to submit RE registration, which you can do online (click here) or print the form (click here) and leave it in Tracy's mailbox at FUSW this Sunday.

Please add these upcoming dates to your calendars:
  • Friday 9/8, 6:30pm: Join us to organize the RE wing for a new year of RE. We'd especially like to organize all of our story books!  Let Tracy know if you will help so we can add you to the pizza order.
  • Friday 9/8, 7:00pm: Senior High Youth Group. Youth will meet with advisors Stu Caplan and Julia Caldarola to discuss plans for the coming year. Youth should RSVP via the e-mail from Tracy.
  • Sunday, 9/10, 10:30am: Ingathering Water Communion.
  • Sunday, 9/17: Sunday morning RE classes begin!
  • Sunday, 9/24: 7:00am  Breakfast Run; 10:30am Religious Education Classes for PreK - 8th grade; 12:30pm OWL Parent Orientation at the Mt. Kisco UU (we are collaborating with Mt. Kisco for 7th-8th grade OWL this year!)

Future of Faith Formation at FUSW  ~ Preparing for Creative Imagining

This year, we will discuss ways in which we might adapt to changing demographics, exploring what the future of multigenerational faith formation might look like at FUSW.  It takes a community to offer meaningful and robust Religious Education, and we hope this will be a congregation-wide conversation.

To lay the groundwork for exploring new directions for multigenerational faith formation that better meets current demographics and needs, we invite you to participate in a UU Leadership Institute class.  Leading Adaptively/Adaptive Leadership, led by Rev. Renee Ruchotzke, will help us gain tools and a shared outlook for leading change by engaging in creative imagining rather than reproducing aspects of our systems and practices that may no longer serve current needs. This is self-paced work and new material is made available every two weeks. The first session is already available. We will schedule conversations in the Fall to discuss what we are learning and design a way forward.

You are all welcome! Please join us.  Register for the Leading Adaptively/Adaptive Leadership UU Leadership Institute class. The cost is $30 and scholarships are available. Contact Tracy.

Photo Request for Water Communion

I'd love pictures of your summer! In particular, I'd love pictures of water you visited this summer. This can be a sprinkler system in your yard, a lake you swim in, a river you toured, an ocean you crossed. Any pictures of the summer, most especially those of water, would be wonderful. We now have a screen we can use during worship, so I'd like to have a photo montage running during Water Communion. If you have something you'd be willing to share, please email them to me.

Join the First Unitarian Society of Westchester
Facebook group!
The First Unitarian Society of Westchester is a Facebook group for members and friends to share with the FUSW community at large. We hope this space is a dynamic environment to invite quick response and information sharing about our community.
We want to remind everyone that posts shared in this group are not reflective of the staff or stance of FUSW unless posted from the website or other FUSW sources. Much like congregational reflection, these posts reflect the voices of the individuals who post here. And much like congregational reflection, we ask that you think about the diversity of our community, including political, religious, racial, or other differences, before posting, and respect the voices of those who post here.  We want to continue to create an inclusive community online as well as in person.
