Celebrate 40 Years in Business with Bill Wildman Floor Covering on September 30th
Bill Wildman Floor Covering is having a party on September 30th celebrating 40 years in business. All Chamber members and their family and friends are invited. Bill Wildman Floor Covering will be giving away 40 areas rugs (one for each year of business!) along with other prizes. WATR Radio will do a live remote broadcast from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Coffee and cake will be served. Virginia O'Rourke Cookson to receive Main Street Community Partnership Award
Main Street Waterbury (MSW) will present their 2017 Main Street Community Partnership Award to Virginia "Ginny" O'Rourke Cookson, owner of O'Rourke & Birch Florist in Waterbury, October 5th at a reception at the Palace Theater in Waterbury 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The Award celebrates the leadership and contributions of the late Stephen R. Sasala, former Waterbury Regional Chamber CEO and former president of MSW Board of Directors. It is presented to a commendable individual whose initiative, leadership, and personal commitment embody the spirit of partnership and community involvement. 12th Annual Brass City Brew Fest (September 9)
Every September, more than 2000 beer aficionados gather featuring 125+ breweries and brewpubs showcasing more than 275 domestic and international brews. The Brew Fest is one of the largest in New England and provides an opportunity for beer lovers to sample a wide variety of craft brews. Proving its appeal, the Brew Fest has drawn attendees from more than 90 towns in Connecticut and a dozen states up and down the East Coast. Women in Manufacturing Summit (September 13-15)
Women in Manufacturing® (WiM) will hold its 7th annual SUMMIT in at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. More than 300 women are expected to attend the annual three-day conference that is specifically designed to support, promote and inspire women in the manufacturing industry. Registration can be accessed here. The SUMMIT program theme for 2017 is "Unified in MFG" and events, speakers and discussions are planned to emphasize the diverse nature of manufacturing and the women who make up its workforce. Sacred Heart High School 95th Anniversary Kickoff Mass & Cookout (September 23)
Sacred Heart High School will kick off a yearlong 95th Anniversary Celebration with an outdoor Mass and afternoon cookout on September 23rd. Mass will begin at 12:15 PM in the La Bella Vista outdoor pavilion and will be celebrated by Monsignor John Bevins '50 and Monsignor James Coleman '54. Guests will enjoy a full cookout menu along with an ice cream bar, along with the music of Waterbury's own Lee Dimo as well as Guy Riddick '78 playing your favorite music. Quassy Amusement Park 26th Annual OKTOBERFEST (September 23 & 24)
The 26th Annual OKTOBERFEST at Quassy Amusement Park will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  on both September 23 & 24 in Quassy's huge Fieldside Pavilion with live music in the afternoons. Joe Stanky & The Cadets perform Saturday with John Stevens' Doubleshot on Sunday. Pumpkin decorating for children will be provided while supplies last. There is no general admission to attend OKTOBERFEST. Parking at Quassy is $7. There are fees for food, beverages, rides and attractions. Quassy Amusement Park is in its 109th year and features more than two dozen rides and attractions. Ponte Club Columbus Day Awards Dinner will honor Chamber Chairman (October 6)
The Pontelandolfo Community Club at La Bella Vista Wedding & Banquet Facility will host its annual Columbus Day Awards Dinner on Friday, October 6th. The Club will this year honor the Waterbury Regional Chamber's Chairman of the Board, William J. Pizzuto, Ph.D., Director of UCONN Waterbury, along with several other awardees. The event will take place from 7:00 PM until Midnight and will feature a full dinner and DJ, with all proceeds benefitting the Pontelandolfo Community Club Scholarship Fund. Mental Health Connecticut to Host 5th Annual Art of Wellbeing Event (October 21)
Special guests Jimmy Greene and Nelba Márquez-Greene, two inspirational and remarkable members of the Connecticut community, will be the featured speakers of this year's Art of Wellbeing: An Evening of Jazz, Hope, and Healing. Jimmy and Nelba are the parents of Ana Grace whose life was taken during the tragedy in Sandy Hook on December 14, 2012. The evening will begin with an opening reception, including gourmet hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and desserts provided by the talented team at Mohegan Sun. The mobile auction will be live throughout the evening where attendees can bid on several wellness related packages. Connecticut-born jazz musician Jimmy Greene and his quartet will play music from his recent Grammy® nominated release. Through an intimate discussion, led by New England News Collaborative and WNPR's John Dankosky, Jimmy and Nelba will share their experience of the power of healing through music and personal expression and how the Márquez-Greene family promotes love, connection, and community to honor their daughter, rebuild their lives, and impact the lives of those around them. Nelba will also share the good works of The Ana Grace Project, a nonprofit where the family's slogan of "Love Wins" has become a powerful force for changing thousands of lives in our schools and communities. Nancy M. Cappello, Ph.D., of Are You Dense Advocacy, Inc. Receives UNICO 'Americanism' Award for her global Breast Health Advocacy
At UNICO's national convention in Scottsdale, AZ , Dr. Nancy M. Cappello was honored with the 'Americanism' medal for her patient advocacy which began out of her personal tragedy of a missed, delayed and advanced-stage breast cancer diagnosis. Nominated by Francine Nido, national secretary and member of UNICO Waterbury which was founded by Dr. Vastola in 1922, the award recognizes an Italian-American who has made an enduring impact on humanity which encompasses the cornerstone of UNICO's foundation. Dr. Cappello is the Director and Founder of two non-profits, Are You Dense Inc. and Are You Dense Advocacy Inc. She is the inspiration behind Connecticut's pioneering efforts in 2009 to enact the first dense breast tissue reporting law in the nation. Today, 31 states have a reporting law. View Member Profile

CCA, LLC Promotes Paul Connelly to Directory of Environmental Sciences

Literacy Volunteers Seeking Tutors
Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury will host orientations for adults interested in volunteer tutoring opportunities to help local adults with basic literacy, English language skills, and preparation for the U.S. citizenship test.  The need for tutors is great; there are currently 30 adult learners waiting for tutors.  Interested individuals are invited to attend one of the following volunteer orientation sessions: Wednesday, September 6, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Middlebury Public Library, 30 Crest Road, Middlebury; Thursday, September 7, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Depot Square Mall, Suite 213, 51 Depot Square, Watertown; Saturday, September 9, 10:00-11:30 a.m., Ion Foundation Community Room, 270 Church Street, Naugatuck; Tuesday, September 12, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Silas Bronson Library, Auditorium, 267 Grand Street, Waterbury; Thursday, September 14, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, Southbury. O&G Holds 4th Annual Retiree Picnic; Damiano Honored
O&G Industries held its fourth annual Retiree Picnic on July 15th at the Pavilion at La Bella Vista in Waterbury, CT. Over 175 retirees gathered for the 2017 event, tallying over 2,750 years of service to the company. Among those honored was Tony Damiano who retired in December 2016, after 54 years with O&G. Damiano oversaw production for O&G's network of quarries. At the event, Damiano was presented with an engraved stone handpicked from one of the quarries he oversaw. The inscription stated: "Tony Damiano: Our deepest respect and gratitude for 54 years of loyal dedication and innovation. The Oneglia Family". Crystal Bees, an upscale entertainment center at 240 Spring St. in Southington, celebrated its official grand-opening on Friday, Sept. 1 as part of a Labor Day Kickoff Party that included a car show. Verizon Wireless recently marked the grand-opening of its new location at 1156 Main St. in Watertown with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Station Restaurant

The Station Restaurant , located in the former train station on Water Street in Naugatuck, marked its grand opening today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that included Mayor Pete Hess wielding the golden scissors. Owners Carlos Santos and Jim Perzhilla welcomed more than 100 people to the event, including Sen. Joan Hartley, Sen. George Logan, and Rep. David Labriola, as well as Naugatuck Economic Development Corp. CEO and Naugatuck Chamber President Ron Pugliese, Naugatuck Chamber Director Courtney Ligi, and a host of borough officials.

The Club Health and Fitness recently celebrated the opening of its new location at 100 Prospect Street in Naugatuck.
