NOAA Report: What to Expect Regarding Storm Surge

This morning's weather briefing from NOAA indicates that our area may see 10-20 inches of precipitation. Although we may see flooding in mostly low lying areas, we do not expect to see citywide catastrophic conditions for the city. There may be standing water in localized area, but we expect these to recede once the rain subsides.

The same briefing indicates that the expected storm surge numbers are much improved. Storm surge damage is dependent on topography, tides and the timing of winds with the tide. At this time, it appears that the only areas that may experience storm surge damage are some coastal locations south of Sunset in Coral Gables due to their relatively low elevations. Tomorrow's (Sunday) high tide is at around 12:45 p.m. Depending on timing of the winds this may be the peak of storm surge.

We caution that this storm is a fluid situation and that the above informational advisory may differ from eventual conditions.
