Westland Road Project Update
Westland, MI - Several of the city's 2017-2018 summer road projects are being completed just as the fall phase of road work gets underway.  

Phase 1 of the 2017-2018 Road Project list was completed by Labor Day and included:

Cowan Road Resurfacing Project 
    • Between Wayne Rd. and Farmington Rd. 
    • The total cost of this project is approximately $600,000 
    • Funded primarily through a $420,000 MDOT grant. 
    • The scope of this project included a complete resurfacing of the road and the installation of ADA ramps

Parkwood and Bennington Watermain and Road Replacement Project 
    • East of Merriman Rd. 
    • The scope of this projects included the removal and replacement of the existing 58 year old defective watermain and construction of new 8 inches concrete pavement
    • The total cost of this project is $1,000,000.  
    • Parkwood and Bennington are main routes to Elliot Elementary School and this project will increase the safety and functionality of the area.
Central City Parkway Landscaping Project
    • Between Ford Rd. and Warren Rd.
    • The total coast of this project is approximately $800,000
    • Landscaping project followed Central City Parkway's $1,537,000 Road Reconstruction which included a $1.2 million MDOT grant
    • The scope of this project includes:
      • removal of all overgrown trees
      • planting of 170 new trees
      • planting of 1,100 ornamental shrubs, perennials and grasses
      • brick work at the intersection of Central City Parkway and Warren
      • installation of river rock islands and 10 benches
      • relocation of two war memorials from the former city hall site
Spring Valley Drive Resurfacing
    • The entire resurfacing of Spring Valley Drive in Holliday Park was completed by mid-July
 
Phase 2 of the 2017-2018 road rehabilitation program will start by mid-September and will include:

    • Asphalt Milling and Resurfacing of Louise Ct. and Shackett St. between Gary and August
    • Defective concrete removal and replacement of Badelt, Lear Ct, School St. west of Wildwood, Avondale between Forest and Schuman
    • Concrete joint and crack sealing of Fountain St. in Holliday Park and Westland Woods Subdivision
    • Asphalt joint sealing of Newburgh Rd. between Enterprise and Cherry Hill, Barton St., Sheridan St., Rosslyn St., Hambelton St.
    • The total cost of Phase 2 is estimated at $450,000
The City of Westland is also in the planning stages for Phase 3 of the 2017-2018 road rehabilitation program in the area bounded by Wayne to Merriman and Palmer to Cherry Hill.  

Phase 3 of the 2017-2018 road rehabilitation program will include the following neighborhood streets: 
    • Defective concrete removal and replacement of Bayview St. east of Wayne Rd.
    • Concrete joint and crack sealing of the area bounded by:
      • Cherry Hill to Sansburn and S. Wildwood to Wayne Rd.
      • Melton to Palmer and Regene Ave. to Ackley Ave.
      • Parkwood to Harvard Ave. and Flynn to Northgate St.
    • Asphalt pavement sealing of areas bounded by:
      • S. Farmington to Forrest Ave. and Hivley to Beechnut Ave.
      • Glen Ave., Hazelwood Ave., Melton Ave.,and Cady Ave. between S. Wildwood and S. Wayne Rd.
    • The total cost of Phase 3 is estimated at approximately $150,000/
