Happy Trails: Fall is a perfect time 
to explore Glendale's trail system
 
Did you know that Glendale has 40 miles of trails within city limits? You may know about the beautifully-preserved Thunderbird Conservation Park, which is a very popular destination for hikers in the Valley. But in addition to that, the linear parks in Glendale are a wonderful amenity that many have not discovered yet.  Read more.

Movies by Moonlight Fall Series Begins September 29
Sept. 29 - Nov. 3, various parks
Bring your ohana to watch Moana at the Sahuaro Ranch Park sports complex on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The series continues Friday evenings through Nov. 3, at a different city park each week. Pre-movie activities for the kids begin at 6 p.m. Free admission! 


Historic Sahuaro Ranch Tour September 30
Sept. 30, 11 a.m.
Meet at the front porch of the Main House at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a one hour tour of the Historic Sahuaro Ranch area including the historic homes, agricultural buildings, barnyard area, and groves. Tour is both indoors and outdoors, please dress for weather. Reservations are not required.

Reach for the Stars with Saguaro Astronomy Club Sept. 30 at Thunderbird Park
Sept. 30, 6 p.m.
Glendale partners with the Saguaro Astronomy Club for the Fall Public Star Party at Thunderbird Conservation Park on Saturday, Sept. 30.  Members of the club will have telescopes large and small available for public viewing from 6-9:30 p.m. (sunset just after 6 p.m.). View a variety of astronomical objects, including the Moon, Planets Venus, Mars, And Saturn, Stars, Galaxies, and many Deep Sky Wonders. Club volunteers will also answer questions about telescopes, observing the sky, and astronomy in general. Weather permitting. F ree!

Boys and ghouls will enjoy this night of games, inflatables, contests, arts and crafts, face painting and of course, lots of candy! Kids are $4, and parents are free with paid child. More Info. 

GAIN Night
Murphy Park
Friday, Oct. 27, 5-8 p.m. 
The Glendale Police Department's annual Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods (GAIN) event will invite residents to learn more about community safety, getting to know their neighbors through block watches, with many city departments on hand to provide information to residents. Fun activities for the kids will include trunk-or-treat, face painting, and much more. More info.

Try Archery, Ages 6+
 
Try your hand at archery at one of two dates and locations.  No experience necessary and all equipment will be provided.  Ages 6 and older. This event is free, but offered on a first-come, first-served  basis . No registration is required.

Two fall clinic dates:

  • Saturday, Sept. 30, 7-11 a.m. at Glendale Heroes Park Archery Range, 83rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road) 
  • Saturday, Nov. 13, 5-8 p.m., Foothills Recreation Center (5600 W. Union Hills Dr.)

 
Start Planning Now for Fall and Winter Breaks!

NEW! Glendale will offer Open Gym locations during fall and winter breaks at the following GESD locations:  Landmark; Challenger; and Isaac E. Imes. For just $7 for a five-day week of open gym, kids ages 7-12 can join in this staff-led program to hone physical skills needed for youth sports participation, as well as develop social skills and stay active while on school break.
