KVMR Underwriter of the Month
Sierra Theaters is a locally owned, family business that operates Sierra Cinemas, The Del Oro Theatre, Sutton Cinemas, and
The
Nevada Theatre Film Series.
Mike Getz launched the
Nevada Theatre Film Series in 1979, and he and Barbara Getz opened Sierra Cinemas in 1989. The success of the business in the 1990's enabled them to expand to open Sutton Cinemas and then in 2003, the Getz's purchased the Del Oro Theatre, a historic landmark in downtown Grass Valley.
Sierra Theaters is now operated by Mike and Barbara's daughter Azriel and son-in-law Michael LaMarca, and a team of over 40 staff members. Sierra Theaters is a true small town business committed to quality entertainment and to serving the community by employing youth.
"We are teaching them important skills to take with them for their future careers," says Azriel. With a smile she adds,
"For hundreds of young people this is their first job.
It's fun to work with them."
Sierra Theaters has proudly supported KVMR for 30 years.
"KVMR is the glue that holds our community together in so many ways," states Azriel.
2016 marked the opening of the area's first movie theatre cafe, The
CineCafe, at Sierra Cinemas...

Protect Public Media
This week, the House of Representatives will debate a spending package for next year. The bill currently includes public media funding but it's important that we continue to engage our lawmakers to push this vital funding past the finish line. Federal funding enables our station to bring you the best news, educational, local and cultural programming and vital community and public safety services. If you value these programs and services, please

to sign up for updates, take action and learn why public media funding is both an essential and excellent investment.
KVMR is a proud partner of Protect My Public Media, a collaboration of local public radio and television stations, national distributors, producers, viewers, listeners and others who support a strong public media in the United States. The campaign is an effective tool to protect future federal funding for public media stations.

Calling all Artists!
Last March, KVMR hosted the Animal House - Revisit-TIN Auction where local artists created shelters for creatures and critters utilizing recycled tin from the old Bridge Street building where KVMR now stands. The structures were purchased through a silent auction.
There will be another Tin-Art project for a similar event to be held next Spring. Stay tuned for details on how to apply and participate.
