Ripped From The Headlines!
Where in the WORLD is God?!

A Note From Pastor Linda

For God so loved the WORLD that he gave... ~John 3.16

Dear Friends in Christ,

Where do you get your news? Americans express a clear preference for getting their news on a screen- though which screen that is varies. TV remains the dominant screen, followed by digital. Print newspapers grab only about 20% of those looking for news. Yet, I remember the "good old days of my youth", grabbing the Sunday newspaper- reading the comics first and then grabbing all the brightly colored advertisements. My Grandma always grabbed the obituary section- I use to think that was a bit morbid. My Mom would grab the sports page. My Grampa and Dad always grabbed the rest and read the headlines- that seemed boring to me!

This Fall we will be looking at the headline news and asking the question: Where in the world is God? Into the NEWS of the day we will grapple with the GOOD NEWS of the gospel, pondering together what Jesus might have to say about what is going on...

What exactly is the GOOD NEWS? The Good News is that we are terribly broken and hopelessly flawed creatures (all of us!), and yet our Savior welcomes us with outstretched arms and accepts us just as we are. Why? Because God so LOVED the world! (John 3.16) Know this: YOU are welcome here and YOU belong here. Invite a friend to worship with you as we open up the headline news!

A few reminders for this Sunday as we return to our program year schedule- and something NEW:
  • Worship at 9am or 10:30am in the Great Hall
  • THIS WEEK: Blessing of the BackPacks & BriefCases- or whatever else you carry into the world- at BOTH worship services.
  • THIS WEEK: All Church Family Photo snapped at 10:15am- in the turnaround (or Great Hall if rain).
  • THIS WEEK: Beer & Hymn Sing tickets on sale at Hosanna for $10- find out more here: http://www.hosannaforestlake.net/beer-hymns/
  • NEW! The Upper Room CafĂ© is OPEN- crafting specialized coffees, tea and espresso- along with bakery items. At this time, proceeds benefit the 2018 Lakes Area FMSC MobilePack at Hosanna.

Let There Be PEACE and LOVE On Earth!
 ~Pastor Linda

Preschoolers who are beginning their first full year of  Faith Formation will experience a special blessing and will receive their own SPARK Story Bible. Those elementary aged kids who have not received a SPARK Story Bible are invited to participate.
As children become independent readers, it is a natural time to fulfill the baptismal promise to place the scriptures into their hands. Children and their families will learn some basics about the Bible, as well as ways to incorporate the Bible in daily readings and family devotions through this special workshop. Parents will present the Bible to their child(ren) in worship.
