Dear Students,
Earlier this morning we learned that the President of the United States has called to end the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. While we are disappointed in this announcement, Fullerton College is committed to proudly serving our community as an open-access institution, and nothing will change that. We remain strong in our commitment to provide access and opportunities to any student who seeks to further their education.
As the discussion on DACA begins to move through Congress, we remain courageous in our support of all students. We are working closely as a college with our District and the State Chancellor's Office in Sacramento to stay abreast to changes in federal legislation. If you have any questions related to DACA or the California Dream Act, I encourage you to contact or visit our Counseling Division and ask to speak with someone about next steps.
In a legal update released by the State Chancellor's Office it was noted that today's decision on the "unwinding" of DACA does not impact a student's ability to attend a California community college, qualify for an exemption from non-resident tuition fees under AB 540, or to apply for financial aid under the provisions of the California Dream Act. AB 540 and the California Dream Act are state programs that are entirely separate and distinct from DACA and the federal enforcement of immigration laws.
I am extremely proud of the
mission, vision and values statements we recently adopted as a college. Fullerton College will remain a welcoming, inclusive institution that offers our students exceptional opportunities to learn, grow and achieve their goals.
