Principal Alvarez
I hope this finds you having enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend with family and friends. In this month's issue we have a number of important items to review headed into week #4 of the 2017-2018 school year.

Open House
Open House will be Tuesday, September 26th from 4:00-6:30 PM. We would like to invite all our families to come out and learn more about the day in the life our students.

School Forms
Please return all forms that were given to you or those your students brought home at the beginning of the year. These forms are very important for us to be able to contact you and have important emergency information for all our students. Also if you have not done so, please complete the online lunch application or request for a form to come home to fill out. These forms are extremely important in helping us receive money for our students' education.

Attendance
Please remember that school begins at 8:45 AM. The car rider line is slow around 8:25-8:35 AM and then gets really busy with the rush to get in before the bell rings. Students will start receiving tardy slips after the Labor Day weekend (this week!).

* Students who are absent need to bring in a note from home.

Car Loop Safety
Please keep in mind the following safety rules for car arrival:
  • Have backpacks and lunchboxes ready to go. This will make the line go much faster.
  • All students must be dropped off next to the curb. Please do not drop off in the passing lane or the parking lot.
  • As soon as the vehicle comes to a stop next to the curb, please exit the vehicle.
  • Do not drop off students on Brick Road. This is very dangerous.
Car Dismissal
  • Hang your car tag in the window.
  • Do not cross lanes, stay in the lane your car was called in.
  • Move your car all the way to the top of the line.
  • Take your tag down once your child is in the vehicle.
SAC
The first SAC meeting for the new school year will be Tuesday, September 12th at 4:00 PM in the media center. We are looking for parents interested to fill the chair and vice-chair both position as they will both be open.

Have a wonderful week and thank you for looking over this latest issue.

Warm regards,

Agathe Alvarez

Gifted News

A pair of TES gifted students working on a science lab experiment last month
Gifted classes started last week (August 28). Our kids are ready to go deeper into the world of STEM. We've lined up some terrific guests to come to our classes including;

Dr. James from Rollins College, who will introduce robotics programming on the computers. He and the Rollins Foundation are the reason we have these wonderful non-toy robots.

The Amazing Gerard who will help them to develop their critical thinking skills with his "Is It Magic or is it Science?" It a really interesting, growing experience. We'll include his link to "101 Magic Tricks Your Can Do With Household Items" with your supervision on the download.

Tracey Conner, from MicheLee Puppets, will be doing a project with them on making creative paper machete table pieces as part of our kids "Giving Back" theme. Tracey will also be coming back to do a unit on puppetry.

Finally, one of our parents is planning another "Giving Back" project where the kids will pack meals for other kids in need. This is part of our character development series with personal experiences.

This past week the gifted classes started their computer coding unit which will either be new or a refresher on their existing skills. Programmers: the skill they need to get a Gamer's Dream job!

We look forward to an exciting year with other guests teachers I'm trying to line up. Parents, if you have a unusual job, we'd love to have you come in as a guest teacher and do a presentation with our classes. If you plan on a visual and tactile presentation, you will be a screaming success. Remember to fill out the volunteer online application. Mrs. Parrot at the front desk can assist you.

The garden is gearing up for new soil as well this fall.

Meet Our Special Area Team!

Tildenville Welcomes Mrs. Tamara Musni!
I have been teaching music for two years at the elementary level prior to coming to Tildenville Elementary School. I have a bachelor's degree from Indiana University in Music and Japanese, and have been playing piano since I was seven years old. Prior to teaching, I worked in the field of human resources.

One of the things I like about working as a music teacher for Orange County Public Schools is the availability of all the great Orff instruments like xylophones. In my classes this year, I plan to include lots of instrument playing as we learn about different types of music. We also plan to have a choir with lots of exciting performances coming up throughout the year. I am looking forward to getting to know all the kids and sharing in their music learning experiences!

Tildenville Welcomes Mrs. Ana Bondi
As a child, art opened my vision to the world in such a way that it is the reason why I am so passionate about art education today. My Art degree is from the University of Central Florida. I have just celebrated my 10th year as an Orange County Public Schools Art Teacher. In my previous school, I had worked with students to create over 100 acrylic paintings on canvases and woven art works based on Florida State Art Benchmarks. The students helped create an Art classroom "outside of classroom" concept by displaying their work in the school hallways.

I am honored to be able to restart an Art Program at Tildenville Elementary where our students can experiment with different professional art media. My goal is for them to be inspired by the great masters of art, so they can also expand their vision of the world.

Welcome Back Ms. Mohammad!
I grew up in Québec, Canada where French is the official language of the province. I then moved to Florida about 5 years ago to start this journey in teaching. This is my fourth year teaching French at Tildenville. I enjoy traveling, cooking, and shopping!

Welcome Back Coach Gray!
I'm Coach Gray and I'm now entering my 12th year in education. I have spent time at both the elementary and middle school levels specifically in Physical Education and also several years of experience coaching school teams as well as programs outside of school such as the YMCA. My goal is to provide a safe learning environment where students can improve upon their health and skill related fitness components.
