A Bias Opinion

The news reports from Texas and the Gulf Coast continue to give us reason to pause. Families and individuals have been displaced, homes have been destroyed, and life has been lost. In the midst of any natural disaster, we can wonder, "what can I do?"

It is easy to get overwhelmed by information. Read more...

Hurricane Harvey: You Can Help!

In light of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey, UMCOR is issuing a call for relief supply kits, which help provide care for vulnerable people during times of crisis. Most needed at this time are Cleaning Kits, Hygiene Kits, and School Kits. Instructions on how to assemble kits can be found here. Kits can be shipped directly to the Sager Brown UMCOR Depot by using the shipping label on that webpage. If you wish to give financial support toward relief supply kits (Advance #901440), click here. Another way to give is by supporting UMCOR's U.S. Disaster Relief (Advance #901670) online here. Now is not the time to go, so please prayerfully consider these other ways to be in ministry with those in the hurricane's path. Bishop Introduces Task Force on Clergy Wellness

Beloved in Christ Jesus:

In the Episcopal Address at Annual Conference I stated that I would be initiating a Task Force on Clergy Wellness. I want to indicate to you that the task force has been named and has already met once. They are lay and clergy committed to this work. The task force will have its second meeting on Thursday, August 31. The persons who have agreed to serve are:

April Blaine
*Janet Blocher, Chair
Leroy Chambliss
Anna Guillozet
Mike Kremnitzer (WOC Staff)
Brian Law
Donnetta Peaks (WOC Staff)
Mary Shumard
Chad Stoltz
Stephanie Tunison
Brent Watson
Justin Williams

The group will be looking at learning about the state of clergy wellness in the West Ohio Conference. They are shaping their work around five markers of wellness: spiritual, physical, emotional, mental and financial.

The goal, beyond assessment, is to celebrate the good things and identify some goals in each area for improvement over time. The task force will gather information from many sources and partner widely on solutions.

Please keep this team and this important work in your thoughts and prayers and be alert for the opportunities that will be coming your way for input.

All the best in Christ Jesus,

When Kids Come Out
A four session class will meet at the
Worthington United Methodist Church
600 High Street, Worthington
Each Wednesday, Sept. 6 thru Sept. 27
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

When a son or daughter comes out to his/her/their parents
as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, the family will
experience new challenges and opportunities, especially as
people of faith.

In a safe setting, the following topics will be addressed in
addition to concerns and questions that parents and family
members bring to the group:
1. How do I/we provide support and
encouragement to my/our child who has come
out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?
2. How do I/we navigate relationships in my/our
local congregation after my/our child has come
out?
3. How do I/we come out as parent(s) of an
LGBT child to other family members and
friends, and those in the church?

Rev. Jim Waugh, a retired pastor in the West OH Conference of the United
Methodist Church, will lead the group. Jim and his wife, Carol, have an adult
daughter, Lisa, who came out to them several years ago.

Parking is available at the church. Look for signs directing you to the "Kids
