No School Sept. 4
There is no school on Monday September 4 in observance of Labor Day. 


Totally Awesome Tuesday
Our first Totally Awesome Tuesday assembly of the year is Tuesday, September 5. With Totally Awesome Tuesdays, we promote positive behaviors by introducing specific learner profile attributes and IB attitudes each month. 

For September, we are focusing on the learner profile attribute, Knowledgeable and the IB attitude, Enthusiasm Read more about Totally Awesome Tuesday and Essential Agreements in  our  IB PYP Newsletter .  

On September 5, everyone is encouraged to wear the Totally Awesome Tuesday t-shirt, Bassett/Westlake spirit wear or anything green!

T-Shirt Orders
If you would like to order a Totally Awesome Tuesday t-shirt, please submit the T-Shirt order form with payment by September 18. Please make checks payable to Westlake Board of Education. 

T-Shirt Donations
If you have a gently used Totally Awesome Tuesday t-shirt that your child has outgrown, please consider donating it back to the school.

MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)
Beginning this week, students in all grades will be taking MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments. MAP measures where your  child's learning is at this point in the school year.  We will be doing MAP assessments three times during the 2017-18 school year: fall, winter, and spring. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher.


Bassett Library Update
This week classes will begin going to to the Bassett library for instruction and to check out books. Classes are taught by our media specialist, Ms. Craven. Our  library staff also includes Mrs. Coffman, who is our resourcarian.

Birthday Books
If you would like to purchase a book for the Bassett library in honor of your child's birthday (or other special event), please submit the Birthday Book form with payment by September 29. Please make checks payable to Westlake Board of Education. 

Your form will be kept on file and your child will be contacted to select a book for the library in the month of the birthday or special event. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Craven at cravenk@wlake.org.


Note for Link Enrichment Activities
If your child will be attending an after-school Link Enrichment Activity at Bassett (such as Progress with Chess, Eager Engineers, or KidzArt), please plan to send in a note to your child's teacher indicating that your child will go to Link at dismissal time

Once your child is at Link, instructors will make sure students get to the right classroom at the right time for their enrichment activity.


Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
If you are dropping off/picking up your child by car, please make sure you are following our Arrival & Dismissal procedures. The map is here.

Enter from the back driveway on Woodmill Drive and USE THE CAR LINE.
  • Do NOT enter from Bassett Road to drop off or pick up (except for half day kindergarten drop-off, 11:40-11:50 am).
  • Do NOT park in the back parking lot and have your child cross in front of cars in the car line. 
  • Do NOT drop off or pick up in the bus loop. 


WHS Varsity Football Tickets  
Student tickets for Westlake High School varsity football games (home & away games) may be purchased at the Bassett office for $4 each. (At the gate, student tickets are $6). 

Payment must be cash in the exact amount; the office cannot make change. Friday, September 8 is a home game vs. Olmsted Falls. The season schedule is here

Liz Pirnat's Message

Dear Bassett Families, 

We had a great turnout at our Coffee Meet-Up on Tuesday. It was great talking to everyone and meeting new families. It was so much fun we are doing it again! Our next Coffee Meet-Up will be Tuesday, September 26, 8:00-9:30 am. 

PTA Meeting is Sept. 7
Our first PTA meeting of the year is Thursday, September 7 at 7:00 pm in the Bassett library. Come learn more about upcoming PTA and school events and meet other parents! 

Why do we have Direct Donation?
Bassett PTA raises funds to enrich the educational experience of our children at Bassett Elementary. While we do have many different fundraising opportunities, with Direct Donation, 100% of the funds stay at Bassett

If you are interested in making a Direct Donation, please send in a check payable to Bassett PTA in an envelope labeled Direct Donation (or fill out the Direct Donation portion of the Membership form when you join PTA.)

Have you joined Bassett PTA?
Joining Bassett PTA is a great way to support your children's education!  Membership is only $10 per person; anyone in your family can join, Moms, Dads, Grandparents! 
  • On our Membership form, you can sign up for PTA membership, make a Direct Donation (see above), and indicate your volunteer interests. 
  • Please see our Bassett PTA Does That? flyer to learn more about what PTA provides at Bassett. PTA is responsible for many of the programs, events and opportunities that enrich the educational experience of our children at Bassett.

Bassett Family Fun Night

Harvest Day is Wednesday, October 11, 6:00-8:00 pm (there is no school October 12 & 13). 

Harvest Day is a PTA-sponsored family fun night at Bassett featuring games & activities, food trucks, silent auction & raffles, and more! Stay tuned for details!

REFLECTIONS
Creative Arts Program

Reflections is a PTA-sponsored creative arts program open to students in all grades. This year's theme is,  Within Reach

Categories include: visual arts, literature, photography, music composition, dance choreography, and film production.

WESTLAKE EARLY CHILDHOOD PTA

Membership Kick-Off

Have kids ages 0-6? Come kick-off the new school year with the Westlake Early Childhood PTA...Come Build with Us! Building friendships, community awareness and fun!

WESTLAKE MUSIC BOOSTERS

Westlake Music Boosters supports Westlake Schools music programs and teachers from pre-K through 12th grade. Music Boosters recently gave donations to the music departments of each Westlake school
