Blessings everyone! Just finished leading a wonderful women's camping retreat in the Pecos last week. Dimensions of Beauty was the theme. Very appropriate for this time that is critical and we often feel surrounded with challenges. Beauty has many faces and one rests in uncovering the grace within the challenges and even crises.

Monday and Tuesday offered an opportunity to unearth beauty in DC where I lobbied as an OXFAM Sister Ambassador regarding the 2018 budget and humanitarian needs related to climate. The proposed International Budget is only 1% of the entire budget and covers EVERYTHING that is not domestic. The current administration proposes a 32% cut of the 60 billion that is at the same level as the 2017 budget. Out of this 44% cut of humanitarian aid is being suggested by the administration. Currently, the famine crises in S. Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen where drought related to climate change, political unrest and other factors are contributing to humanitarian crisis means life and death to some 10 million people.

For now, just a reminder about these amazing events around the corner. NMIPL will have action asks at the events as well. Please pass the word and invite others to these meaningful opportunities.

Peace and good,
Joan Brown,  Executive Director, NMIPL
