Women's Wellness Department connecting pregnant women and families to support

In the last year, Sixteenth Street's Women's Wellness Department has done nearly  700 OB patient intakes and enrolled more than  210 families in the  . Each and every one of these patients received the department's help and support with everything from prenatal classes and breastfeeding support, to getting connected to outside services in the community. Each new mom receives a home visit after birth and every family that participates in CCC receives care coordination until the child is age 7. This personalized care and education outside of the exam room allows our new moms and pediatric families to be the best they can be, no matter where they are.
Department of Environmental Health's work featured as promising model for the nation

A new US Water Alliance report,  An Equitable Water Future , explores the impacts of water management on disadvantaged communities, and the opportunities to build more equitable water systems. This is the most comprehensive briefing paper to date on the interconnections between water management and equity. The report identifies the ways in which water issues like affordability and aging infrastructure disproportionately impact vulnerable communities, and highlights the potential to leverage water systems to bring about greater opportunity for all. As part of over 100 examples and in-depth case studies, the report spotlights Sixteenth Street's Department of Environmental Health's work as a case of promising work being done around the country to ensure that all people have access to safe, clean water; benefit from water infrastructure investments; and are resilient in the face of a changing climate.

An Equitable Water Future provides a framework for all stakeholders to understand their role in making our water systems more inclusive. We hope that you will share the report with your networks! The full paper is available online here.
Testing Tuesdays - take control of your status

You can find Sixteenth Street HIV Department  Testing Tuesday   events all around the city, offering free rapid, confidential HIV, HEP C and Syphilis testing. They also provide prevention 101, safe sex kits and PreP information.

Testing Tuesdays are one of the many testing and prevention efforts led by our HIV Department. Testing, education and prevention activities and services take place both in and out of the clinic space. In the last year, the HIV Department has  tested more than 680 individuals off-site in a social or community based setting . If an individual tests positive, they are then able to seamlessly engage into medical care with a nurse case manager and one of our Sixteenth Street doctors who specializes in HIV care.

A focus on me.

"I am the care taker of my family in all senses of the word. I take care of my father, who has Alzheimer's, and my son, who struggles with other things. I also am financially responsible. It's very difficult and I feel that weight on my shoulders consistently. It's a never-ending stress and constant attention. I also have asthma and diabetes. I'm only 31 -  but I've already had serious complications.

In the last year, they've come in waves, high cholesterol, hypertension, leg pain, tiredness and chest pains. I began care at Sixteenth Street when all these issues started to surface. Dr. Pyne is my doctor. She is tremendous. You can feel how much she cares about me - how much she cares about all of her patients..."

Milwaukee Magazine: 6 of the Most Fit Milwaukeeans

We all know that Wisconsin summers mean lots of
activity and fun outside. We want to spend as much time as possible in the heat and sun while keeping up our healthy exercise routines. But we have to be careful. It is very important to enjoy the heat and not let it get in the way of your healthy activities and exercise, but we have to do it in a safe way, so as to not put ourselves and our family in danger. When we don't protect ourselves in the sun and heat, we risk heat exhaustion and for some, even heat stroke.
