Fun Run Room Rep Meeting

Calling all Fun Run Room Reps!

Time to lace up your shoes and get ready to run. The first Fun Run Room Rep parent meeting will take place right after school this  Wednesday, September 6th in the Walnut Grove library. This is an important meeting for an overview of all the fun the PTA has planned for this favorite day on the WG campus.

Each class at WG needs (at least) one parent as its designated representative for this fun event. If you're already signed up in this role for your Roadrunner's class, great! If you aren't yet but  would like to take on this responsibility, please get in touch with Allison Bowling or Kym Peck

Also, a reminder to you as Fun Run Room Reps, you must complete this  volunteer clearance form if you haven't already done so.  Please submit it asap to avoid any delays in being able to help out on September 29th.

Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

Monster Mash Committee Meeting

Our 3rd Annual Monster Mash will be taking place on Friday, October 27th.  We are looking for volunteers to be on the planning committee for this fun event.

If you would like to be a committee member and help plan this event, please attend our first planning meeting this Friday, September 8th at 9:30am in Room 401.

If you just have a desire to help out the night of the event, please email [email protected].

Fall Picture Day

Walnut Grove's Fall Picture Day is coming soon!

This year, picture day will take place on Wednesday, September 13th. All students will have their pictures taken on this day, both individually and with their class.

You will have the opportunity to pay for pictures in advance online, or you can send money with your child on picture day. A picture form should've been sent home with your student last week.

Attendance Awareness

Did You Know September is Attendance Awareness Month, because absenteeism in the beginning of the school year can predict poor attendance throughout the school year.  Studies show that students who miss 2-4 days in September were 5 times more likely to be chronically absent than students who were absent fewer than 2 days.  Parents can support their students by encouraging them to start the year off strong with consistent attendance to set them up for success throughout the rest of the school year.

If there is something that is preventing your student from attending school, you can reach out to your school's Child Welfare and Attendance Liaison (CWA). Part of their role is to help you overcome obstacles that stand in the way of attendance by troubleshooting issues and connecting you with resources in the community.  As a district, we value attendance and want to partner with you in getting your students to school.   If you have any questions or concerns about your child's attendance, please contact your school's CWA, Deborah Tomlin or (925) 461-6117.

Important Information/Reminders

  • Child safety at WG is our #1 priority!  We would like to ask that all kids riding bikes please try to utilize the pathways in the park wherever possible.   Kids can enter the school from the gate nearest the MPR, but keeping bikers off the sidewalks that cross over parking lot entrances is safest, so utilizing pathways through the park is the best route for all children.
  • Volunteers, please submit your clearance forms!  If you plan on working in your child's classroom or at the Fun Run on September 29th, you cannot do so until you have been cleared through the District.  Fill out this volunteer clearance form now to avoid any delays in being able to volunteer.  So if you haven't already submitted the online form, now is the time!
  • Also, if you will be driving on any field trips, you must also submit a driver insurance form. Please do so early to avoid any delays. Click  here for the form.

  • The PTA is in search of a chairperson for our annual Spelling Bee.  This fun event takes place the first week of December, but we can't do it without the help of our community.  If you are interested in chairing this event, please contact Grace Hong.
  • Math Club is a fun learning program where 4th & 5th graders take Math Olympiads and practice challenging math problems in a fun learning environment.   We meet twice a month on Wednesdays after school  from 3:00 - 3:50 PM .  For more information, please email [email protected].

  • Science Club allows 4th & 5th graders an opportunity to learn Science beyond the elementary school level through lectures and hands on labs.  The club meets Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm.  Please click here for more information and to register.
  • Keep collecting your Box Tops and don't forget to turn them in at the box in the school office.  Congratulations to our August Box Top winners: 1st - Chloe McCary; 2nd - Katelyn Swenson; 3rd - Harper Fox; 4th - Sophia Huynh
