It is not often that I would choose to write of someone who has passed away, but this woman and her family have served the chamber and the community of Escondido for many decades.
You would be hard pressed to find anyone who does not know the name Hawthorne.

On Monday, July 3, Tom Hawthorne lost his lovely wife of 68 years, Dorothy Lucille. They met when Dorothy was only 16, married in 1948 and raised 6 children.

Dorothy was truly a servant and cared deeply for others. Most recently, she and Tom helped fund the Hawthorne Veteran and Family Resource Center in Escondido which plays a major role in Interfaith's goal of ending homelessness in North San Diego County.

If you are sending condolences, in lieu of flowers, Dorothy would have loved that donations be made to North County Interfaith Community Services, Outreach International or the  San Diego Zoo .

Donations to organizations that Dorothy was passionate about are a wonderful way to continue her legacy of caring.

Sincerely,

Rorie Johnston

Badiee Development has broken ground on the Escondido Victory Industrial Park, the city's first new industrial development in more than a decade. Designed by Ware Malcomb, the 91,000-square-foot project is slated for completion in the spring of 2018.  Located at 2005 Harmony Grove Road in Escondido, Calif., on 4.9 acres, the project comprises two modern industrial buildings of 55,500 and 32,500 square feet, respectively...

What to expect from California's $183.2 billion $ Budget
Los Angeles Times,
John Myers

California lawmakers gave final approval Thursday to a $183.2-billion state budget, a plan that broadly boosts government spending while also continuing the recent effort to build up cash reserves. Both houses of the Legislature ratified the spending blueprint after completing negotiations earlier in the week with Gov. Jerry Brown. While most of the budget was put in place during Thursday's lengthy floor sessions in the state Senate and Assembly, a handful of related bills won't be considered until later. Here's a look at some of the most important changes to California government services and programs in the coming 12 months...

AT&T invests in youth with a grant for Interfaith's Transitional Youth Academy

Interfaith Community Services' Transitional Youth Academy (TYA) held an event in Oceanside Harbor with students, staff and volunteers to celebrate the end of the school year. In addition to team building activities and beach games, the organization received a $20,000 contribution from AT&T for the Transitional Youth Academy at the event. AT&T Director of External Affairs John Osborne presented the check to Interfaith Community Services' TYA- a program that supports resilient youth in North San Diego County by providing academic support, mentoring, leadership development and workforce training.
