What a summer this has already been!

summer_sale-jump.jpg
On July 19-23, our Middle School students traveled to Covenant College at Lookout Mountain, Georgia.  The very next week, our church hosted over 500 students for our annual vacation Bible school.  For the 3rd summer in a row, we offered a traditional VBS in the morning and a family VBS at night.  Last week, July 10-15, our high school students attended the Reformed Youth Ministries Camp in Panama City, Florida.  In the midst of those dates, our children's ministry provided a mission day and has the highly anticipated Marathon of Madness coming up very soon!

Do we offer all these activities so that kids might have a full summer calendar?  While I'm sure parents really appreciate their kids having something to do, that's not the primary reason we do what we do in the Next Generation Ministries.  Being able to spend concentrated time with kids, whether that is an all-day event or a week-long event, is essential to the relationships we build with them.  Shared experiences is one of the best ways to a kid's heart.  It's our desire to share and example the Gospel for the kids God gives us to shepherd during the summer.  Not all the kids that hangout with us are Saxe Gotha kids and we love that!  We have witnessed so many "God-experiences" this summer with our kids.  A major reason for that is our incredible interns.  They have worked so hard and have provided so much energy to both our children's and youth ministries.  The conversations they have with kids and the way they lead and guide discussions about God during Bible study is truly amazing!  The next time you see an intern, pull them aside and tell them, "Thanks" for all they're doing.  Out of all the jobs they could have chosen this summer, they chose to give back to children and students!  They are real heroes in my book!

As a Saxe Gotha member or friend, you should know that God is truly at work in our kids and through all the many loving people who serve the Lord by supporting the Next Generation Ministries!  Please continue to pray that God would draw kids to Himself through our ministry.  God Bless!

Christ First,
Joel

F.I.S.H. Teams:
7/23: Team 6,  7/30: Team 1
Night of Worship 2017 will be August 20 at 6 pm in the Light House Auditorium. The AWE Worship Team will be leading fun and Spirit-filled worship and will be joined by guest artists and groups from different backgrounds. The theme of the event this year is " The Light of The World!"  The purpose of this event is to bring the people of the church together for worship no matter their race or ethnicity. Guest speakers will also be giving a short message between each set.

We are currently working on new "Jesus" merchandise to be sold at this event including new shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, magnets and other products. All profits made will benefit the Debt Free in Three campaign. Pre-order forms will be ready within the next couple of weeks. We hope to see you there!
Belize Mission Trip: Our 20 member mission team will be in Belize August 1-8.  We will be conducting Bible School for approximately 300 children in two locations for four days.  In one of the locations, we will not be translating from English to Spanish but from Spanish to an indigenous language the village uses!  This will be a new challenge!

We ask that you be in prayer for the team and the work that God is setting before us to share the message of God's love and grace that is offered to everyone.  As you know, any time we share the Gospel we are engaged in spiritual warfare.  We desperately need your prayers.  Thank you for all the support you have offered toward this unique opportunity to share the Good News in another culture!
Senior's Summer Suppers & Speakers meet on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. in Room 151 to share a meal (please bring your own bag meal).  After the meal, we will move to Room 152 for an interesting presentation. On August 2nd, we will meet in Room 112-113 in the Light House.  Randall Shealy, Lake Murray historian, will present the history of the Lake Murray Dam. All Senior adults are welcome.  Please come enjoy the fellowship. Reservations not required.
Stephen Ministry  is our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. These connections are confidential and matched up by gender. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whose life seems barren and forlorn because of crisis or tragedy.  What do Stephen Ministers do?  These individuals listen to people in need, explore feelings, pray, share Christ's love, maintain confidentiality, and attend to the care-giving process, while leaving the results to God.  Stephen Ministers have big hearts.  If you are feeling unloved or need a friend, contact  Jon Myers  at (803)727-0322 , referral coordinator for men, or  Carol Perrin  at (803)917-6690 , the referral coordinator for women. Please know that your identity and requests are kept confidential.
