A Note from Laura

My Aunt Nita, oldest sister of my dad and treasured by my whole family in Arkansas, passed away last week. She was 87, so it wasn't totally unexpected, but she had held her own until just a few days before when she had fallen while trying to perform a household chore. A broken shoulder resulted in a quick case of pneumonia and then her tired body let go.

As I was reading through the guest book on the mortuary website, I came across a wonderful memory someone shared that really explains what sort of person she was.

"I was a first-grader at Sheridan Elementary School in 1948, and had understood, one day, that my father was going to pick me up for lunch. I waited and waited and he never came, so I sat down on those tall concrete steps up to the second floor and cried. A pretty young lady who worked in the office came down the steps and sat down beside me to find out what was wrong. That pretty lady was Nita. She put her arm around my shoulders and told me everything was going to be alright. She then drove me to the cafeteria at the high school and bought my lunch. She sat beside me while we ate and then drove me back to Ms. Veta Reid's room. God looked down from heaven that day and smiled.I have never forgotten that act of kindness. That was the kind of person Nita Lancaster Webb was."

I hope you have someone in your life who touches your soul--who is so good and decent and genuine that you become a better person just being with them. Whether they are at home, in the community, or at St. Margaret's, may we learn from their example. And may we all strive to be that person in others' lives.
St. Margaret's Day on Sunday

We will have a special liturgy in honor of our own St. Margaret of Antioch this Sunday at all services. (Her acutal Feast Day is July 20th.) The day will include special readings and prayers. Wear your St. Margaret's gear if you have some and show your St. Margaret's pride! And find our display in the formation building lobby where you can add what you love about St. Margaret's.
Adults, youth, and children are encouraged to join us for a night of fellowship and joy as we hear the talents of fellow parishioners!  The event is free. Bring your family and friends!  If you would like to perform a number, please contact Tom Wenz at [email protected] to make sure we have the music ready for you.

St Margaret's Wood Available for Use

Are you a creative woodworker?
Would you like some very special lumber?

When our new Formation Building was to be built two trees were removed from the property, milled and dried for 3+ years . Rough sawn planks of wood averaging 2-30" in width, 3-4 inches thick, and 12-20 feet long of white pine and some cedar have been drying and are ready to be re-purposed. Priority for the wood will be for those who may have an interest in constructing furniture or other pieces that can be used by the church. If there is no interest in this re-purposing, we will look into selling the remainder for private use.

If anyone is interested in this wood, please contact Al Todd at  [email protected]. Please respond by August 15th. A  time will then be scheduled to show the wood to potential users.

We need some Weed  Warriors!  All we ask is that you consider choosing a week between now and October and volunteer to stop by the church and pull some weeds for one hour. You can do it any time of day, any day of the week you choose. Weeding can be meditative, a good time for prayer, and give you a sense of accomplishment! Many hands will make light work!
