A MESSAGE FROM FR. DAVID
Fr. David Lynch _
Victims of Hurricane Harvey need our help

According to Bishop Andy Doyle, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas has taken first steps in a robust response to Hurricane Harvey.  Spiritual care teams have deployed to Houston's Convention Center, which is housing 9,000 plus evacuees. D ozens of deacons and lay chaplains are visiting the hardest hit neighborhoods to offer comfort and emergency funds to people who were flooded.  Houston's largest Episcopal churches are responding with space for mission teams, feeding programs and funding.  Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) has already provided emergency funds and the Houston diocese is accepting donations at www.epicenter.org/harvey.  The Church Pension Group, the Church's insurance arm, is also sending teams to assess damage to church property and help remediate those issues.

I ask you to PRAY for all who are in harm's way, for those who have been displaced and have suffered so much loss, our government officials, volunteers and all of our first responders. All of these people need our unceasing prayer.

If you are in a position to help with monetary donations, please give directly to the Diocese of Texas using the link above or to ERD.     We will also be collecting contributions at the Church of the Resurrection, which we will send on for hurricane relief efforts.  Please write "Hurricane Harvey" on the memo line of your check or enclose a note with your gift.

Your help is a reflection of Christ's love that is shared and it is this love that will bring hope in the darkest moments for many people.

FINDING FAITH THROUGH FICTION BOOK CLUB
Next Wednesday, September 6
Tears of the Giraffe

The September meeting of the Finding Faith Through Fiction Book Club will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 6 due to the Labor Day holiday.

This month's discussion will be on "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency -  Tears of the Giraffe", by Alexander McCall Smith.

THE NO.1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY introduced the world to the one and only Precious Ramotswe - the engaging and sassy owner of Botswana's only detective agency. TEARS OF THE GIRAFFE takes us further into this world as we follow Mama Ramotswe into more daring situations ... Among her cases this time are wayward wives, unscrupulous maids, and the challenge to resolve a mother's pain for her son who is long lost on the African plains.
