Falcons in the City by Chris Earley, Photographs by Luke Massey

This is a children’s non-fiction picture book about a pair of falcons that chose to build their nest on a Chicago high rise condo balcony.  It’s quite impressive – the story, the breadth of information about peregrine falcons, and the stunning photography.  I read it with my 9 year-old daughter and she was enthralled.   Anyone (at any age) with interest in birds of prey or nature photography will love it. The Upside of Unrequited

by Becky Albertalli

Molly Peskin-Suso is seventeen and knows all about unrequited love. She crushes hard and often (26 times to be exact), but always in secret. Her twin sister, Cassie, is constantly telling Molly to woman up and act on her crush but Molly can’t handle the idea of rejection. Until one day she decides it’s time to maybe get her heart broken. How bad can it hurt? (Young Adult Fiction)

Melodrama  by Lorde

Listening to Lorde’s second album is an emotional ride exploring vulnerability, courage, power and weakness -- her sultry emotional voice reaches highs and lows, the lyrics are sharp, soulful and dramatic.  It’s a great album – my favorite song is Liability, but The Louvre and Writer in the Dark are great too. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Eleanor Oliphant is a quirky, socially challenged, quite wonderful character who, through the power of love and having the right people in her life at the right time,  has her life turned upside down and right side up again. Filled with lovable characters, the story is tender, funny, sad, and pure magic. Utterly “unputdownable” and a tough “book act” to follow! For fans of The Storied Life of A. J. Fickry and Where’d You Go, Bernadette?. ( New Adult Fiction)
