Last September, Homestead Dairy broke ground on a $6 million expansion. Work on the facility is now complete, making it the largest automated robotic dairy farm in the nation. To celebrate, the Houin family will be having an open house on July 29th from 1 to 5 p.m., and all are invited. The event will include guided tours of the new robotic facility and calf barns, vendors within the dairy industry sharing information, free ice cream, and tram rides through the farm. Ensuring that our local schools have the tools they need to shape our future workforce is vital to economic growth. That is why we are excited to announce that the Education Workforce Innovation Network and the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning at the University of Indianapolis have named the Plymouth Community School Corporation (PCSC) as a recipient of their Education-Workforce Partnership Planning Grant. The total grant of $75,000 will fund six groups across the state, including PCSC, to support education-workforce alignment research and implementation. Plymouth's Manufacturing and Precision Machining Program will explore innovative business and education engagement practices and create career pathways in precision machining to better meet regional employment needs.

In order for a small town to thrive, it must have a long-term vision that will address challenges and create solutions to guide future growth. Bourbon's path to creating this vision began in December, and is already making excellent progress. The Bourbon Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee held their first public open house on May 4th. It was a huge success with over 50 residents in attendance, contributing their thoughts and ideas to the plan. A public survey was also made available to maximize resident input. Nearly 140 Bourbon residents responded to the survey. This is a significant milestone that marks the approximate halfway point for Bourbon in completing its comprehensive plan.

 

Bremen Upgrades Infrastructure

Recognizing the importance of updated infrastructure to better serve residents and businesses, the Bremen Town Council agreed to upgrade the town's lift stations in the spring 2018. The Bremen Redevelopment Commission also agreed to contribute funding for the lift station project in May. The plan and design phase is the next step, and bidding out the project will likely take place at the end of the year with a bid awarded as early as January. The anticipated cost is around $1.4 million to upgrade sixteen lift stations, all around 40 to 50 years old. Nine of those lift stations are located in the town's jurisdiction, and seven are in the TIF districts.

 

Culver Named Stellar Finalist and Main Street Community

For the second year in a row, Culver has been named one of six finalists for the Stellar Communities Program. Stellar offers winning communities both funding and the cooperation of various state agencies in developing and implementing a long-term plan. Culver's application will build off of the one from last year and include projects such as building a new amphitheater for public events in Culver Town Park and creating more affordable housing to attract young families to the area. The Culver Stellar Communities Committee is meeting weekly and engaging in community outreach to prepare for the final application.

To celebrate and raise awareness for their status as a Stellar finalist, Culver hosted Stellar Fest on June 17th. The event featured an announcement from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) that Culver has officially joined the Indiana Main Street Program. Culver's Main Street program is being headed by Culver Second Century, which is comprised of local business leaders and community members that collaborate with other local organizations to revitalize downtown Culver. Congratulations to Culver on these exciting developments.
