New Road Opens in Folsom Plan Area, Section of Placerville Road Closing Monday 
Alder Creek Parkway, a new thoroughfare that connects Scott Road to Placerville Road south of Highway 50 in Folsom, is now open. A portion of Placerville Road from just north of Highway 50 to Alder Creek Parkway will close the third week of July for additional improvements and will remain closed through mid-August. Detour signs will be posted and businesses in the Folsom Pointe center, such as Mikuni, Starbucks, Hampton Inn & Suites and In-N-Out Burger, can continue to be accessed from East Bidwell Street. The first stretch of Alder Creek Parkway, which is planned as a major east-west thoroughfare in the Folsom Plan Area, offers a new connection from Placerville Road to Scott Road for drivers traveling north and south of Highway 50. Scott Road south of Alder Creek Parkway to White Rock Road will remain closed through the end of the year. Learn more.

Video Features Water Safety Tips
As temperatures rise, the region's lakes, rivers, and public pools are popular destinations for outdoor fun. A public safety video by the Folsom Fire Department and Folsom Police Department highlight important boating and water safety tips to keep in mind as you're heading out to the water this summer.

Summer Concert in the Park Friday
The free summer concert series at City Lions Park continues Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring the popular band, Have Mercy, playing a great mix of classic rock. The free concerts are presented by Folsom Parks & Recreation with the generous sponsorship of Folsom Rotary Clubs, Easton Development Company LLC, The Goddard School, Rubio's, and Take Part in the Arts. Bring a picnic or purchase food and beverages on site from the Folsom Rotary Clubs. The concerts continue weekly through July 28. Find the complete concert line-up on the City of Folsom website.

"Wish You Were Here" Art Exhibit Reception Friday
Those who love to travel and explore new destinations will enjoy the new exhibit at the Gallery at 48 Natoma. The travel-themed exhibit features watercolors by Barbara Kempe, photography by David Crosby, and drawings and sketchbooks by Phil McDonel. The gallery hosts a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 14. The evening includes live jazz saxophone music by Jerry Fairley and light refreshments. Magazine Service Offered at Folsom Public Library
Want to take some light reading on your vacation? The library has a magazine service called RB Digital that allows you to download full magazine issues to your computer, phone, or tablet. There are more than 160 popular titles on topics like sports, cooking, home, garden, entertainment, and cars. Folsom Parks & Recreation Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Folsom residents are invited to a party from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 22 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Folsom Parks & Recreation Department. The party includes 25-cent admission to the Folsom Aquatic Center to enjoy swimming, DJ entertainment, and special 25-cent pricing on dinner items and snacks provided by local restaurants. The party wraps up with the 8:30 p.m. open-air screening of the Disney animated hit, "Moana." Now Hiring for the 2017 School Year
Folsom Parks & Recreation is hiring classroom aides for its popular Fun Factory Preschool program. Classroom aides assist with planning and implementing curriculum; help with group activities and games, arts and crafts; room preparation and clean-up; and more. Free Screening and Discussion of the Documentary, "Being Mortal"
Join us for a screening and discussion of the PBS Frontline film, "Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End," from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 14 at the Folsom Senior Center at 48 Natoma Street. Based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, MD, the documentary explores the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness and their relationships with the physicians who treat them. Join the national conversation that brings medical professionals and community members together around the shared responsibility of discussing what matters most to patients and families facing difficult treatment decisions and how to have these conversations ahead of a medical crisis. The one-hour screening will be followed by an hour of facilitated discussion; light refreshments provided. This event is presented by Snowline Hospice.
