Does volunteering help you get a job?

Volunteering has always been seen as good for the soul, but not something that led to a better job. Volunteer work got a line at the bottom of a résumé, near hobbies.
THAT HAS CHANGED!
More employers are looking at volunteer work in evaluating job candidates.  In a recent survey, 20% of employers responded that they had made hiring decisions based on volunteer work.  76% said nonprofit experience (working, volunteering, or interning ) is important.
Hiring mangers value volunteerism.
Having volunteer work on your résumé can help a candidate stand out.  Employers want employees who are engaged and committed as well as problem solvers and those willing to step up when help is needed. Volunteering proves ability in these areas.

You, as a chapter leader, need to let members know the career value of volunteering as you ask for their help in heading up committees and with chapter activities.  Being a volunteer shows  commitment and work ethic, and employers looking at so many résumés will be more likely to flag those of candidates who have been involved in volunteer work.
Does volunteering help your get a job?  You bet it does!

Bring IISE training to your chapter's doorstep and also earn $$$$ for your chapter!
Our continuing education department has instituted a program through which we will come to your campus, usually on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and present the green belt training immediately followed by IISE's certification examination. And we do this for students at a discount of over 60% off the regular IISE member prices. In the last few years, we have brought this program to over 40 universities. Local chapters are permitted to add to the registration fee in order to generate revenue to support local activities. We would be delighted to bring this to or back to your campus. Contact Larry Aft at IISE for more information. [email protected]

Recognize academic excellence and campus leadership!
