We had a fascinating Digital Production Buzz podcast this last week talking about Cloud-based editing and visual effects tools. It started with Paul Babb, CEO of Maxon/US, describing what Internet-based services are and how they work. Then, Pierson Clair, part of the faculty at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, provided an outstanding overview of how to secure our data in The Cloud. His answers surprised me, and, I suspect, you'll be fascinated as well. After that, we had interviews with the CEOs of Frame.io, StratusCore and Bebop Technology discussing their web services.

If you are wondering whether moving to the web makes sense, you need to listen to this show. (Oh! And if you are wondering about the network utility Pierson mentioned, its called "Little Snitch" and you'll find it here.) This was a great show - listen to it here (or on iTunes).

Last week, I announced a new webinar looking at Media Management for Video Editors. This was prompted by a new release of KeyFlow Pro, from Malgn Technology. This week, I have an article with a First Look at this new version, then join me on July 5 for a look at three different software tools to manage our media. You can benefit from this webinar whether you use Premiere Pro CC or Final Cut Pro X. To sign up for this July 5 webinar - which is FREE, by the way - please click here.

KeyFlow Pro, Final Cut Library Manager and Kyno are three excellent packages - I'm really looking forward to sharing them with you.

Thinking of articles, I was racking my brain for something to write about this week, when suddenly the idea of providing "Three Tips" caught my attention. So, I created three different articles - one each for Final Cut, Compressor and Motion. Next week, I'll do the same for Adobe's apps.

Also, I wanted to mention that our sister website - DoddleNEWS.com - is running a contest to encourage folks to sign up for their industry newsletter. The DoddleNEWS newsletter publishes multiple times each week and provides industry news, reviews and movie highlights targeted at the filmmaking community. No purchase is necessary for the contest and the winner will get a free annual subscription to my Video Training Library. This is a great way to stay informed and get trained, all at the same time. Learn more here.

And, don't forget to check out this week's article from DoddleNEWS on the highlights from Vidcon this week in Anaheim, CA. It's in the Articles section, below.

That's about it for this week. As always, I'm interested in your opinions. Note: webinars return July 5. In the meantime, edit well.

Last Week On The Buzz!

The Buzz discussed IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service. This has the power to disrupt traditional media creation as did digital video or NLEs. But what is it? Is it just Cloud storage or is it something much more? Tonight, we find out.

  * Paul Babb - CEO, Maxon/US
  * Pierson Clair - forensic detective
  * Emery Wells - CEO, Frame.io
  * Denise Muyco - CEO, StratusCore
  * Bruce Long - CEO, Bebop Tech.
  * James DeRuvo - DoddleNEWS

This was an AMAZING session! Paul kicked things off by describing IaaS, SaaS and PaaS and how these web-based services will affect us. Next, Pierson explained how to pick a Cloud provider and keep our data safe.  Then, Emery, Denise and Bruce each discussed their web services, how they were designed for media creators and how to use them effectively. As always, James has the weekly DoddleNEWS update.
