Volunteers Pack School Supplies

Volunteers are working hard this week packing backpacks with school supplies to distribute to up to 900 local children. The bags are custom packed, per school and grade requirements from 12 public schools in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody that CAC serves. CAC purchased most of the backpacks and school supplies at wholes sale costs with generation donations from individuals, families and grants. Through wholesale purchasing CAC is able to provide a child with a new backpack and school supplies for just $35 each, a $50 retail cost! Additional back packs and school supplies were donated by civic groups and businesses.  CAC thanks the community for ensuring that local children of families in need go back to school with the tools they need to learn!  Give Tools for School Today!
Family Helping Relatives Find Themselves in Need

A family of four who had come to CAC for assistance in the past recently took in relatives who just moved to the U.S. to help them while they wait for permission to work and get acclimated. The family of four had come to CAC sporadically before the mother found a good job and they no longer needed assistance.  Since taking in their relatives, the mother lost her job so both families are now living on the father's wages.  CAC is now assisting both families while the mother looks for a new job and their relatives transition to their new country.  Your donation of any amount makes a difference in the lives of families in our community.
Kids Help Other Kids Have Birthday Parties

Austin Elementary 'Girls on the Run' members decided to that they want to help children in need in our community for their outreach project. They shopped for items and assembled birthday party kits that CAC distributes so that families in need can provide birthday parties for their children. The kits include items such as cake mix, frosting, candles, paper plates, party hats, balloons and party favors. One of the members of the group with her mother/Girls on the Run coach recently delivered 5 party kits to CAC. Thank you girls for your kindness!

Music with a Mission

For many years one of CAC's member congregations, Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation, has collected food for CAC families at their live music event series, The Hungry Ear Coffee House. Every month volunteers from the church bring the food to CAC and give their time to work in the CAC Food Pantry. Hungry Ear brings in a variety of music performers the first Saturday of every month. The next show is Saturday, August 5. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Summer of Love with favorite songs from the 60's and 70's, performed by some of the best musicians and singers in town for this special show!  Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Music starts at 8 p.m. $5 suggested donation at the door and canned goods for CAC always appreciated. BYOB and bring a friend for a night to remember!
