Letter from the Artistic Director

We're bringing down the curtain on our 84th season with a delightful musical that's also a perfect late summer getaway. A Year with Frog and Toad, based on the series of beloved children's books by Arnold Lobel, played to sold-out audiences in its initial New York run, and was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It's a fun and quirky tale of friendship and community, with a cast of colorful creature characters (the postman is a snail!) and a highly hummable score. Our production runs August 3-6 and features the best of our Young Rep, ages 7-13, talent.

Then we'll take a break, for a hot minute, before our exciting 85th season kicks off with the exhilarating musical, Bonnie & Clyde. The Tony-nominated score uses gospel, blues and rockabilly music to tell the story of the doomed Depression-era lovers and their notorious crime spree. The show opens on September 8th for a three-week run.

The rest of our season includes another big, brash musical, two winning comedies by area playwrights, two recent New York successes, our annual production of A Christmas Carol at the historic Valentine Theatre, and more! The best way to get your choice of seats is with season tickets, and we offer a variety of Season Ticket packages.

All of this, and more, can be found on our user-friendly web site, www.toledorep.org. Or you can pick up the phone and call for more information, (419) 243-9277.

See you at the theatre.

'Frog and Toad' Leaps Onto The Rep's Stage

Frog and Toad and 17 of their friends leap onto the Toledo Repertoire Theatre's stage this week to charm young audiences - and their adult companions too.  This Young Rep production tells the story of two good friends, Frog and Toad, as they and their woodsy friends have adventures from spring though winter, and around to spring again.

Frog and Toad rely on each other for fun and companionship. Frog is more optimistic and adventurous, director Amy Spaulding-Heuring said, while Toad is a little more fearful of life and more down to earth. "It shows that with friends, we choose them not always on how they're like us, but how they make us better by bringing to us qualities we don't have," she added.
