Transportation Thursday
The BWI Business Partnership, Inc
Happy  Transportation  Thursday!

As a  Transportation Management Association (TMA) , the BWI Business Partnership offers more than just the incredible Signature Breakfasts for which we are known. Alternative transportation impacts the economy of a region, with many employees relying on public transportation and rideshare programs to get to and from their job and home.  The Partnership provides solutions to employers needing to access their workforce, and to the workforce needing to access job sites.

"Transportation Thursday" was created as a means of further
educating our current and future members about such solutions,
as well as sharing news, facts, and statistics about transportation in
Maryland and how it affects all of us.

The BWI Business Partnership has been the Transportation Management Association for the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport since 1985, and  continues to  advocate for enhanced transit services connecting BWI Marshall with the Arundel Mills and Fort Meade areas and to transit-dependent workforce. This is accomplished through a variety of projects and priorities:

Coordination, Liaison and Advocacy Functions
Ever mindful of parking and transportation issues at BWI Marshall Airport, the Partnership staff serves on a variety of boards of directors and committees including, but not limited to:

Baltimore Transit Choices/MTA LINK committee

BWI Workforce &  Commuter Resource Center
Partnership staff communicates regularly with staff from the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) , and regularly assists the BWI Workforce and Commuter Resource Center counter on the lower level/C-Pier in the airport with the following:
  • Replenishing the  supplies of various transit schedules that serve BWI Marshall Terminal on an ongoing basis to ensure that all job seekers have easy access to transportation and commuter information they may need, if hired.
  • Educating employees who commute via shared-ride (transit/carpool/vanpool) about the free Guaranteed Ride Home program operated by the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), as an insurance policy against being stranded in an emergency.
  • Addressing workforce transportation questions at the Resource Center.
Transportation Management Services
As the official Transportation Management Association for BWI, the Partnership oversees, manages, and participates in several transportation programs, including attendance at BWI Tenant Managers' meetings.

This quarter, the Partnership was a key distributor of information regarding the impact of the MTA  BaltimoreLINK transit overhaul plan on BWI commuters and advocated for enhanced MTA Light Rail service on Sundays and holidays to better assist with the implementation of the new system.

The Partnership also:
  • Collaborates with Business Monthly Staff on their special BWI Airport-focused issue, providing important editorial advice and support, as well as text promoting the region and BWI Marshall events.
  • Partners with the BWI Marshall Transportation Program staff to make employees and prospective employees of MAA and Airmall tenants aware of their commuting options.
• Educates MAA/BWI employees about the MTA Route 17 service as well as other transit and ridesharing options.
  • Provides and administers the LINK shuttle bus service, which serves the BWI Business District and improves the accessibility to the BWI Hotel District.
