Got bone health? There are quality ways to get it and we urge our patients to tune in to how to make sure your bones stay healthy or at least slow down the bone loss that comes with aging.
In midlife, bone loss usually speeds up in both men and women. For most women, bone loss increases after menopause, when estrogen levels drop sharply. In fact, in the five to seven years after menopause, women can lose up to 20 percent or more of their bone density. Osteoporosis happens when you lose too much bone, make too little bone, or both.
While age, family history, low body weight and broken bones or weight loss can all contribute to the risk for osteoporosis, there are many things we can do to keep our bones healthy and strong.
Read on for diet and other healthy living tips to ensure optimum bone health.

Healing Therapies
Prolotherapy
|
Are you constantly experiencing low back, neck, hips, legs, feet, arms or hand pain? Do you suffer from headaches, insomnia or digestive issues? Want to change that?
IPC's newest provider, Dr. Xan Simonson, can help you address these issues through prolotherapy, a recognized therapy that stimulates the body's natural healing process to strengthen joints weakened by trauma or arthritis and treat chronic pain conditions naturally.
Also known as Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT), prolotherapy is a procedure that involves the injection of a substance that stimulates "proliferation" in ligaments and tendons. The substance, typically a dextrose-based solution, stimulates the body's natural healing mechanisms to repair chronically damaged ligaments and tendons by causing a small amount of local tissue irritation or inflammation. The resulting inflammation triggers the body's natural repair processes to strengthen the existing tissue and to enhance the growth of new tissue-a simple, yet effective way to help the body heal itself.
Dr. Simonson is available on Thursdays for prolotherapy treatments, as well as her other service offerings, including acupuncture.
