Market News

Pittsburgh's non-farm employment reached a new high at 1,185,500 in June. The year-over-year increase of 15,000 jobs continued the trends of that past year or so, with manufacturing and logging/mining/construction (which includes oil and gas exploration) declining 3.3% and 1.2% respectively. Sectors with the biggest gains were hospitality (5.4%), other services (3.2%) and professional services (1.2%).

A report earlier this week showed job gains in Pittsburgh's technology sector of more than 13%. Current leasing and development activity corresponds with that trend, with most of the new development in the city being gobbled up by technology companies.

June employment in Pittsburgh grew 15,000 (1.3%) over June 2016, reaching an all-time high. Source Pittsburgh Today.
