Scripture Lesson
Romans 10:14-17

This Sunday we will examine what our shoes say about us; what they saw about our fashion sense, the society in which we live, the culture that surrounds us, and even a bit about our cultural background.  We will even explore the roles shoes take in our lives.  There is more to our shoes than meets the eye.  For instance, in the movie, Catch Me If You Can, Frank Abagnale's father, in one of his many lessons to his son states, "All you need do, to know everything you need to know about anyone, is to look at their shoes."   Believe it or not multiple studies have been done about what our shoes say about us.  One of my favorites comes out the Epoch Times.  I also found articles in the Huffington Post, on CNN, in Glamour (okay, no surprise there), but I also found items in Psychology Today and a few other scientifically focused articles.  Why explore this at church?  Because the focus on feet, shoes, direction, and walking are all found in scripture from Moses at the burning bush, to Jesus washing the feet of the disciples.  So let's have some fun with this and explore it all this Sunday.  I think, once worship is over, you'll find deeper meaning in what may appear to be a nonsensical focus for worship.  To prepare please read Romans 10:14-17.
MINISTRY NEWS
Help Move Furniture
August 6 & August 13
On Sundays, August 6 and August 13, between services (about 10am), please help move furniture in/out of the preschool classrooms so we can clean the carpets and wax the floors.  Please sign up!  Questions? Contact Dave Carver or Dorothy Beeman.
Back to School Blessing
August 27
For all children, teachers, and other school/district staff who are going back to school, we will offer a blessing during Children's Time in worship on August 27.  Children who wish to bring their backpacks or notebooks to Children's time on August 27 are welcome to do so for the blessing.  Kindergartners and preschoolers are also welcome to participate.  This is also a great day to bring a friend!
Only One Worship Service
Sunday, September 3
Just a reminder, on Sunday, September 30 there will be only one worship service at 10:00am due to the Labor Day holiday.
VBS Was Incredible!
The last week of July the sanctuary was filled with a lot of excitement with over 120 children and 70+ volunteers attending this year's Vacation Bible School.  We discovered that when we get our strength from God, we too can be super heroes .  We started the day with songs and a new hero code taught by Flame and Captain Sheep.  Our hero codes state that God's heroes have heart, courage, wisdom, hope and power.  We rotated through recreation, snack/mission, crafts, science and story time. The children had fun, and were excited to learn about Jesus!  A huge thank you to all who helped with Vacation Bible School this year including the folks from Bellevue First UMC who joined forces with us.   We couldn't have pulled it off without the hard work of so many people.  Thank you Aldersgate for being an environment where all of us grow in faith and discover God's amazing love.
Ushers Needed
The first service is in need of more ushers to add to the usher rotation.  Basically an usher comes to church 15-20 minutes early, greets people, hands out the Sunday bulletin, lights the altar candles, does a headcount, collects the offering, assists visitors, and tidies up the sanctuary after the service. Youth and adults are welcome to serve as ushers.  With enough volunteers, usher serve every 6-8 weeks.  If you are interested in serving as an 1st service usher, please contact David James ([email protected], 425-643-2970)
Resource Library News
Please check your personal bookshelves for any church library books you borrowed but may have forgotten to fill out its checkout card!  This is because a recent inventory shows that 12 books are missing from the library, as listed here .    If you find one, please return it to the in-basket, located above the library laptop.

Click here for Bob Olson's report on Larry Morris' book Among Us: Stories of Worship and Faith.    In addition, Bob Olson's latest poem ' I Am a Miracle ' has been added to  Aldersgate Poems: Inspired by Junior Church and Sermons .  These works are displayed on the mobile cart.
Kitchen Range Hood
Are you renovating your kitchen? The church has a very nice stainless steel residential kitchen range hood for sale for a donation.  It is a 48-inch Broan Elite 61000 series, model #614804 and is practically brand-new. The church is upgrading to a commercial kitchen range hood to meet the requirements of the bigger ovens.  If you are interested, contact Rich Detering or Dave Carver.

Jubilee Reach Service Day
 August 26
We look ahead to another opportunity to serve our local community.  The 13th annual Jubilee Reach Service Day is coming up on August 26th.  It is an opportunity for those of us in a church to assist a school and its teachers in preparing their classrooms for the upcoming year.  We have partnered with Puesta del Sol, the Spanish language school that sits just behind Tyee Middle School.  In other words, it's our neighbor just down the street.  We can choose whether we work in the morning (8:00am-12:00pm) or afternoon (1:00-5:00pm) or both.  Our tasks will be to assist teachers in their classrooms.  Volunteers will be asked to decorate classrooms, organize supplies, create bulletin boards, get desks ready, sort curriculum sheets, and anything else needed by the teacher.  There are no age restrictions, easy access for everyone, and it will be fun and fulfilling.  It's a great opportunity to be in service with a neighbor.
Towels Needed
Lazy F Camp is looking for old beach towels or large bath towels for protection for tie-dying and messy Olympics. Patty Ferguson will accept you towel donation or answer any questions.
Crossroads Dinner Update
At the July dinner we fed 63 people including about 15 children. The numbers have been generally increasing but this is the most we have served for some time. We gave away all the food we brought except a few cookies and a little milk. Thank you to all who donated food  and served. Know that your generosity was very much appreciated by those we served.  If you are interested in helping with the Crossroads Dinner program by providing food or serving food, contact Dave Maybee or Melinda Lilley.
