Round 19 of Ohio HPTC Now Open
Round 19 of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit program is in full motion. The Intent to Apply Form is due by August 15 and is required before an application can be considered for Round 19 funding. The form provides the Ohio Development Services Agency with basic information about anticipated projects prior to full application submission. Additionally, all applicants are also required to hold a pre-application meeting with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) prior to submitting an application. These meetings must also be conducted by August 15.

Apply to the Ohio History Fund
The Ohio History Fund is a competitive matching grants program offered by the Ohio History Connection. Eligible projects fall into one of three categories: Bricks & Mortar, Organization Development, and Programs & Collections. Each grant requires matching funds, goods, and/or services from the recipients. The application period is now open through September 1, 2017.
Northeast Ohio winners from last year include the Kent State University Anthropology Department to fund a survey at the Berlin Lake Reservoir and the Peninsula Valley Historic & Education Foundation to rehabilitate the Bronson Church steeple in downtown Peninsula.

2017 Annual Meeting Recap
On Thursday, July 20, 40 trustees and members gathered in the Volunteers Garden for the annual
membership meeting of the Cleveland Restoration Society. Members enjoyed an al fresco breakfast while hearing updates from the board and staff on the successes of the past year.
Three new trustees were selected to join the board: Arne Goldman, of Marous Brothers Construction, Wayne Mortensen, of Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, and Elizabeth Corbin Murphy, of Chambers, Murphy & Burge Architects, a Studio of Perspectus Architecture. These individuals have already been contributing to the cause of the Cleveland Restoration Society and we look forward to what their skills and expertise will bring to our board in the years to come.
A sample of our accomplishments from 2016 includes stabilizing the Scofield Mansion to prevent further decay and selling the Shaker Heights property at 2834 Courtland Blvd. to an established developer. The Scofield Mansion Project is especially poignant as its success was made possible by the contributed services and time of our partners on the project: Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Coon Restoration,
Precision Environmental and
Secureview.

Employment Opportunity at CRS
The Cleveland Restoration Society is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant. The right individual must be a quick study of business software programs, including QuickBooks, Excel, and Word and have the ability to learn new programs; and a team worker with the ability to work successfully with a range of people, including staff members, and other individuals involved with Cleveland Restoration Society. The Administrative Assistant will:
- Process all accounts payables into QuickBooks; obtain approval, input, and file payments
- Maintenance of vendor records and assist in researching vendors
- Process escrow check processing.
- Help with Home Heritage Program billing
- Prepare CDBG timesheets and obtain signatures
- Monthly reconciliation of PayPal and Payment Processing statement
- Monthly reconciliation of QuickBooks and Charity Proud
- Make bank deposits and record in QuickBooks
- Reconcile and organize receipts with Credit Card statement
- Answer door for visitors
- Answer phones
- Mail processing
- Prepare documents for President
- Assist with filing
- Maintain Sarah Benedict House calendar and tenant calendar
- Maintain and order office supplies
- Assist with preparation for office meetings
- Work to improve efficiencies in areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Administrative Assistant reports to the Business & Accounting Manager, and works closely with the President and program staff. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills required. Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced office is essential to success. Salary is commensurate with introductory position. Protecting and preserving Cleveland's sacred landmarks has been at the forefront of CRS's mission.CRS has assisted religious congregations in Northeast Ohio with the care of their properties so they can continue to be responsive to social needs of their communities. These buildings are irreplaceable landmarks and reminders of the rich ethnic and religious history of our region. CRS and St. John's Ohio City

Tour with Architectural Historian Tim Barrett at 1pm and 3 pm
Sparx City Hop, a program of Downtown Cleveland Alliance celebrates the arts, culture and history of Cleveland neighborhoods. Participants explore The Flats (tied in with the Flats East Bank Festival of the Arts), Ohio City/Hingetown, and the Superior Arts District by foot, bike and trolley.
As part of Sparx City Hop spotlight on Hingetown, The Institute at St. John's and the Cleveland Restoration Society invite you to tour the oldest consecrated church in Cleveland. St. John's Episcopal Church, a gothic revival building completed in 1838, designed by famed architect Hezekiah Eldredge. St. John was one of the first authenticated Underground Railroad sites, the original meeting place where the American Indian Movement was founded, and a hub for various community members to come together for worship, activism, and advocacy.

Lost Cleveland
Book Signing and Reception
Laura DeMarco is an arts and culture reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer whose new book, Lost Cleveland, revisits many of Cleveland's glorious buildings. Many buildings did not survive changing times, styles, demographics and economic downturns, but they are preserved in
Lost Cleveland. The book includes rare vintage photos along with colorful background stories. Many of Cleveland's "lost" notable structures are brought to light, including The Elysium Arena, The Hollenden Hotel, the City of Cleveland Steamship, Luna Park, and the Warner and Swasey Observatory just to name a few. Join Laura DeMarco on August 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Appletree Books, 12419 Cedar Rd. in Cleveland Heights, to hear more about her new book.
