Volunteer with Tree Trust this fall!
Fall is approaching fast, and Tree Trust is ramping up for more than 15 community tree plantings and distributions across the Twin Cities! That means we're looking for volunteers!

We are still working on some of the details with our municipal partners, but starting today, our volunteer registration is live! Check out the events we have below, and visit our website to sign up!

Employment Skills- How to Apply for Work
Many young adults at Tree Trust come to us seeking their first job. Often, the first skills they build are those required to apply for a job. This includes looking for work online and at job fairs, completing a cover letter and resume, recording a professional voicemail, and assembling an interview-appropriate outfit.



These are new skills for many of our participants, and they work closely with Tree Trust case managers to get ready for the job application process. With the right guidance and a little bit of practice, participants are then able to apply for work and attend interviews with confidence!  
Community Forestry Tips for Summer
Problems with Japanese beetles? 
Eggs and first stage larvae require moisture to survive; therefore, the easiest way to reduce grub populations is to limit lawn irrigation during the egg laying period when beetle populations peak (mid-July through early August). Japanese beetles also avoid laying eggs in shade, which is another great reason to plant more trees and shrubs in your yard! Concerned about Poison Hemlock? 
Poison Hemlock has been generating a lot of buzz and lots of concerned calls in our state this summer.  Hemlock plants have been found in wet and dry areas including railway tracks, bike trails, stream banks and vegetable gardens. To help answer the community's questions, the UMN Extension has put together a website that includes information on identification, look-a-likes, disposal, management, and more. Please feel free to share broadly and post on social media.

Minneapolis Gypsy Moth Quarantine in Effect
A significant gypsy moth infestation was discovered in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of Minneapolis in late June. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture discovered thousands of gypsy moth caterpillars and defoliated trees. Due to this infestation, an area of 10 blocks have been quarantined. Trees and woody material cannot leave the area until May/June 2018. To learn more, visit the MDA's website.
