July 13th National Summer Learning Day
On July 13, we hosted our fourth annual Moonshot Moment Summer Learning Day!

The School District of Indian River County produced a video to showcase events throughout Indian River on National Summer Learning Day. Check out their video below!

We brought a "Stone Soup" experience to 450 students during the day at the SDIRC south and north county summer camps, as well as the Sebastian and Fellsmere Boys and Girls Clubs.

The students enjoyed a live performance by the Indian River Charter High School Drama Troupe, learning a new summer dance, and writing inspirational reading messages on rocks (stones) at our Moonshot Reading Rocket bus.

In the evening, over 200 people participated in The Learning Alliance's fourth annual Moonshot Summer Learning Day Family Pizza Party at the Heritage Center.  The facility was beautifully decorated by artist Cat Faust, and her talented husband, Principal Adam Faust, dressed as a blue genie to emcee host the event.  We even had a guest appearance from TLA's "Honey Bear" with presenter Debbie Dillon.

In addition to the entertaining drama performances that brought the stories to life, our guest readers included State Representative Erin Grall, School Board Member Tiffany Justice, Vero Beach Police Chief David Curry, and Assistant School Superintendent Pam Dampier.

Over 20 extremely helpful Moonshot volunteers supported the event, with the culminating performance by the Vero Beach Karate Association demo team.

Moonshot Summer Teacher Institute
Nearly 50 educators, including classroom teachers, support staff, media and arts specialists and administrators, came together for a weeklong professional development training focused on social emotional skill development and hands on, maker-centered learning anchored by the wonderfully rich text Ollie's Odyssey by William Joyce.

Participants engaged in multi-sensory, arts integrated learning to
develop curriculum that meets the needs of all students.

These educators will start the school year with a deeply profound understanding of what it takes to create the social emotional foundation necessary to engage all students for academic success.

"That experience was awesome.  My mind has been expanded in so many ways. I believe my future in education is now unlimited.  I vow to share what I've learned with students and teachers.
Thank you again many times over for this wonderful training!" - Participant Feedback

Thank you to the Vero Beach Museum of Art for being  an incredible partner and to all in the Moonshot Community
who made this week possible !

Moonshot 2 Me: Sharing the Message of
Community Collaboration
The Moonshot Moment goal has truly embraced the timeless adage, "It takes a village..." Numerous Indian  River County school administrators, teachers, non-profit professionals, government leaders, private and public  businesses, philanthropist, and concerned citizens have joined together to take a stand for the children in our  community's academic and personal success. Recently, The Learning Alliance launched the Moonshot 2 Me  social media campaign so all Moonshot Moment goal partners can share what the "Moonshot Moment" means  to them. To date, the Moonshot 2 Me campaign has been one of TLA's most successful and embraced social  media campaigns.

Below are a few Moonshot 2 Me quotes that we have shared on Twitter and Facebook. You can view more by  searching #Moonshot2Me on social media and we encourage you to share your personal quote by using  #Moonshot2Me.

Megan Stranzin, teacher at Rosewood Magnet Elementary shares how The Learning Alliance trainings have assisted her in becoming a more equipped and effective educator.

Moonshot Rocket at Camp McKee
The Moonshot Rocket Bus continues to bring extraordinary arts infused educational activities and performances to children and families throughout the county and beyond! In July, the Rocket had a chance to touch down at McKee Botanical Gardens to deliver an exceptional educational opportunity to the campers attending Camp McKee.

A personal Thank You note from McKee Botanical Gardens:

"On behalf of Doreen and me, we wish to thank each of you for the outstanding presentation/demonstration you gave these past two weeks.I t goes without saying, our camp would not have had the impact it did were it not for outside vendors, like yourself. I am certain the encounters you had with our campers was a learning experience they will remember for years!" - Triscia Perri-King
