Eagle Nest Inc. Coordinating Donations of School Supplies.

Eagle Nest Inc. is a faith-based, non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization with goal of improving the well-being of women living in poverty.  The primary purpose of Eagle Nest Inc. is to help women identify problems and opportunities that keep them from reaching their full potential and enriching the lives of their children.  Eagle Nest Inc. is now accepting donations for school supplies.  The supplies are being distributed to families and schools in our community.

We are excited to serve as a hub to coordinate these gifts.  By centralizing the donations from the many willing and giving people in our area, we can streamline collection and distribution to make sure every student has a successful start to the school year. Supplies can be dropped off at Eagle Nest's storefront office at 112 E 9th in Winfield Tues-Fri from 10-4. Monetary donations can be mailed to Eagle Nest and marked "school supplies" on the memo line. Citizens Bank, Millington Street Baptist, Grace United Methodist and First United Methodist are also drop off locations.  So far this year 40 families have received their necessary supplies, we expect approximately 60 more before school starts the third week in August and approximately 15 more after school starts, we also supply teachers in the area throughout the year.

Anyone in need of school supplies may call 229-8282 for an appointment.

Leadership Southwestern Seeking Freshman Work Day Applications

Leadership Southwestern is searching for community service projects for the 26th annual Freshman Work Day, to be held Sunday, Aug. 13.

Freshman Work Day is the final day of Southwestern orientation for the incoming freshman class.  All freshman head out into the Winfield community to work on homes and nonprofit buildings that need repair, painting, cleaning, or yardwork.  Freshman Work Day was started by the Leadership program in 1992 with the goal of establishing positive relationships between Southwestern College and the community.  Since then, all incoming freshman have spent their first day as Moundbuilders doing service for the community.

"The service work on Freshman Work Day helps new Southwestern College freshmen connect to the Winfield community as well as framing part of the school mission for students to be responsible citizens and engage in leadership through service," says Brae Wood, director of Leadership Southwestern.

To apply or to request services for someone else, call (620) 229-6367 and leave your name and phone number.  Applications can be found online at www.sckans.edu/freshmanworkday.
