Communicating the Economic Benefit and Value of Transit: A Guide for Local Transit Agencies

For the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), EDR Group develope
d two products in support of economic analysis by its member agencies: (1) a web-based tool and (2) an economic analysis guide. The web-based tool allows agencies to analyze the ongoing role their operations and capital expenditures play within their regional economy. The guide - "My Economic Impact: How to Talk About My Numbers," is intended to assist public transit agencies with analyzing and then communicating the economic value of of public transit.

Economic Analysis of Completing the Appalachian Development Highway System

For the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), EDR group performed an ex-post analysis of the impact that implementation of the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS) has had on the Appalachian region, as well as the likely future impact of completing the system.
The study
estimates the economic outcomes of ADHS work completed to date and forecasts the future economic impacts, benefits, and costs associated with completing the system.
The analysis includes modeling of transportation and economic conditions, mapping of accessibility, and consideration of business attraction and trade effects of the system.

Lynchburg Regional Connectivity Study

For the
Virginia Department of Transportation, Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, EDR Group was part of team engaged in a multiagency collaboration involving state and regional entities in Virginia. The connectivity study was designed to assess the adequacy and economic impact of regional connections linking lynchburg and the rest of Central Virginia.
Connectivity is broadly defined to include a range of physical infrastructure such as roadways and broadband capacity, as well as social and institutional connections that influence the ability of the business community to access the skills they need through the region's workforce.

Resource Allocation of Available Funding to Programs of Work (NCHRP Synthesis 510)

For the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (
NCHRP
), EDR Group performed a synthesis study on how state departments of transportation (DOTs) allocate resources between different programs and business activities. This project is especially relevant as agencies look to move towards performance-based planning and programming and continue to pursue innovative solutions to address funding shortfalls and uncertainty. Many agencies face rising costs of maintenance for facilities built during the highway construction heyday but also see needs for new facilities to address shifting population and travel patterns. Balancing these concerns is a key component of the resource allocation processes investigated by EDR Group.
