Ruth Ozeki writes beautifully about the natural world, food and heritage. Among her books is the sublime All Over Creation. It takes in large part in Idaho on a farm. It features the the Japanese-American daughter of a potato farmer  who returns home as an adult to care for her parents, and stumbles into the growing controversy around genetically modified food.

"With a combination of humor and pathos that is all her own, Ozeki brings the American pastoral forward into the age of agribusiness and genetic engineering. The result is a smart compelling novel about a world we don't realize we live in. "
- Michael Pollan

Let's talk about...

What We Get From Farmers

Craig, Dorie and Julie at Double Springs Ranch
At NourishMe much of the food we sell comes directly from farmers. They deliver once or twice a week to the shop in Ketchum.

They've become our friends.

We get meat, bones, jerky and bacon from Double Springs Ranch about 94 miles east in the stunning Pahsimeroi Valley.

From Onsen Farm in Hagerman, we get incredible green house greens all year. Al
so from Hagerman, is Springs of Life, from which we get tasty granola, oat burgers, greens, sweet potatoes, onion, and kale.

The incredible Idaho farmer, John Klimes, of Agrarian Harvest (aka Snake River Poultry) in Buhl, delivers meat, eggs, sauage, and indescribable bacon.

Also from the Buhl area, Kasota Farm delivers lettuce and Wagon Wheel Farm is responsible for some of the cucumbers, greens and tomatoes we carry.

From Gail at Picabo Desert Farm, near Picabo, we get the creamy, luscious goat's milk yogurt, in plain, and assorted natural flavors.

Our good friend Kurtis Williams, and his family, of W aterwheel Garden in Emmett, travels u to the valley every week, to sell at the farmer's markets in the summer, and at NourishMe, once a week. Right now he can be found in the mini farmers market at the shop on Thursday afternoons.

From the Bellevue area, Squash Blossom is a new farm hat brings us greens and pesto.

We also get deliveries of Wheatgrass, spinach and other produce from Kraay Garden & Market; and Kathy Noble delivers the pink boxes of lovely organic eggs from Noble Eggs.

Prairie Sun
in Fairfield, delivers beets, carrots and asparagus.

We love raw milk and its incredible nourishing properties. From Fruitland, Treasured Sunrise Acres is one of our direct milk suppliers. We also receive milk from Old Almo Creamery, in Alamo.

We get meats and bones from Malhuer River Meats in Vale, Ore., located right over the Idaho border.  Also bones come from  Buffalo Brown in Nyssa, Ore.

We have just started carrying two incredible items: Cider from Finnriver Cidery in the Olympic Peninsula.

Also Rising Springs Water, from very nearby at Trinity Springs near Pine.
As local and as deep as it comes.

Food from local organic farms has a smaller footprint environmentally, which is important to us.
But eating  local also means more money stays within our community. Every dollar spent generates twice as much income for the local economy. Local produce is fresher and tastes better because it is usually sold within 24 hours of being picked.

Thank you for shopping local at NourishMe and at the Wood River Farmers Markets in Ketchum (Tuesdays)  and Hailey (Thursdays).
