PITTSBURGH - The Houston distribution center for Coca-Cola products is one of a dozen Pennsylvania facilities that are now part of ABARTA Coca-Cola Beverages.
The relationship was finalized Saturday when ABARTA announced that it became an expanded franchise partner of the Coca-Cola Co. by acquiring sales and distribution rights from the world's largest beverage maker throughout the commonwealth.
Financial terms were not disclosed. 
Pittsburgh-based ABARTA said in a press release that its acquisition represents Coca-Cola's continued progress in refranchising its North American bottling operation. The agreement also makes ABARTA the 10th largest Coca-Cola franchise in the United States. ...  Read More.

On July 25, Duquesne announced the creation of the Thomas R. Kline Center for Judicial Education within the Duquesne School of Law. The new center was funded by the largest individual gift in Duquesne's law school history, totaling $7.5 million from its namesake, a 1978 Duquesne Law alum and nationally respected lawyer.

The University of Pittsburgh has set a new record for the number of patents the government has issued to it in a year, and now ranks in the top third of universities issued United States patents, according to a Tuesday news release.

Two new film productions have pulled out of shooting in Pittsburgh, and a third may opt out this week if the state of Pennsylvania can't finalize a budget for the new fiscal year.

Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office, confirmed that two productions worth a combined value of $80 million that had agreed to shoot in the Pittsburgh area pulled out when they couldn't get a signed letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development to access the state's film tax credit program. .. The Pennsylvania division of the American Petroleum Institute on Tuesday released a new study showing that the U.S. natural gas and oil industry supported 322,600 jobs in the state and contributed $44.46 billion to the state's economy in 2015.
The study, commissioned by API and conducted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, found that all 50 states, whether energy producing or not, continued to benefit from the industry.
"Pennsylvania is an epicenter of America's energy renaissance," said API's Pennsylvania Executive Director Stephanie Catarino Wissman. "Supporting 322,600 jobs in Pennsylvania, the oil and natural gas industry continues to be an important part of the state's economy as a whole. The Pittsburgh region's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped by three-tenths of a percentage point to 5.1 percent in June, a rate slightly higher than statewide joblessness figures but smaller than the unemployment rate a year ago.
Job figures for the region were released Tuesday by Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry. The state's report said the 10-county region added nearly 11,000 people to the payroll in the year since June 2016 . .. Read More.

Akron, Ohio-based oil and gas producer Pin Oak Energy Partners has acquired 10 wells in Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as 7,700 acres of leases, 22 miles of pipeline and an office in Hermitage from an undisclosed seller. Neither financial terms of the deal nor the selling price were disclosed.

Pin Oak has 363 wells and produces 5.6 million cubic feet per day in the Utica Shale. The acquisition adds 10 wells in Mercer, Crawford and Venango counties, as well as three other counties in nearby Ohio with a total production of 2.2 million cubic feet per day. There are three more wells acquired that have been completed but have yet to be connected to pipeline, according to the company. . .. Read More.


A meeting was held yesterday involving members of the Regional Transportation Alliance of Southwestern Pennsylvania and Indiana county-based stakeholders.
The main topic of discussion was a plan for better transportation in the 10-county region, including Indiana County. That was broken down into seven principles including optimizing existing assets, prioritizing connections to jobs and education, embracing new operating models, making flexible "future-proof" investments, adopting best management practices, supporting multiple mobility options and operating as an integrated system. Ken Zapinski of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development talked about getting many ideas from groups large and small. A Delaware utility company announced Friday it had acquired the assets of a natural gas marketing company in western Pennsylvania.

Chesapeake Utilites Corp. (NYSE: CPK) did not disclose financial terms for the transaction for the assets of ARM Energy Management in western Pennsylvania. It was acquired by Chesapeake Utilities' Peninsula Energy Services Co. (PESCO) division. According to its LinkedIn page, ARM Energy Management markets natural gas, natural gas liquids, crude oil and condensate. Its office is in Pittsburgh. .. Read More.
