DALLAS is a 26 year old male double yellow headed Amazon. He recently reentered the Phoenix Landing adoption system because he would pick at his feet and cause them to bleed. We've been ensuring he is back on a healthy diet (no carbs, no seeds!), spends some time outdoors, and has the medical support needed to get back on track.  He's doing great.   Dallas is very animated and happy to be active - unlike some of those Amazon "perch potatoes." Exercise and a good diet are the keys to longevity, just as with people. Amazons are particular about who they like, and they're usually very quick to let you know.  Maybe Dallas is looking for you?

SMOKEY is a 14 year old Congo African grey. She will always keep you on your toes. Her tastes in food vary wildly. Is this week a carrot week? She loves her birdie bread (using all healthy ingredients, please). Smokey is not a fan of the shower, but she does the grey version of bathing which is to stand over the water bowl and step into and out of the bowl repeatedly. Shreddable toys make her very happy, especially when there is a special cashew treat to find in unwaxed Dixie cups. Smokey can fly, and since she has some feather destructive behavior on her chest (common to many greys) we are reluctant to clip her wings at this time.  She says things like, "I'm gonna geetchu!" and "Whatcha doin?" and "Where ya goin'?" It's really amusing when she really gets going to the point you can't discern words but still get that she's talking...to someone?  Don't worry, she'll train you very effectively!

COCKATIELS COCKATIELS COCKATIELS!!  

You may remember the large group of cockatiels we helped from a Pennsylvania home that started with a handful of cockatiels and in short order became 167 birds in pretty horrid conditions. We could only help 36 of them at the time, and many are still waiting for their homes. These cuties  are now on the path towards better health, space, and all the time they need to develop potential future trust with humans, or just be happy being birds in a good environment. We highly recommend that cockatiels live with at least one other cockatiel because they really appreciate each other's company. However, they need to be the   same gender, to avoid any    more breeding.   

SUELO is a 26 year old Senegal, and he is ready for his next Phoenix Landing home.  He is quite amiable and loves being with the family unless it's nap time. He says "bye every time you leave the house; and any door that is opened he makes a creaking sound. Suelo can say his name. He also says "swookie swookie" whatever that means!  His favorite way of bathing is in a bowl, no misting please. Suelo's diet has been pretty good - broccoli, carrots, brown rice, apples, split peas, pears and small Roudybush pellets. Rare training treats would be sunflower seeds and raw walnuts. Suelo goes through stages in the year when he decides that those chest feathers are a bit too much, but his charm and beauty supersedes all else!
