2017 Sine Die Is Now Available!

The 2017 Sine Die is now available! The Sine Die is OML's annual report featuring a legislative wrap-up of the bills that were enacted, defeated and vetoed. The First Session of the 56th legislature will go down as one of the most unusual legislative sessions in recent years. The stage was set with nearly a $1 billion budget hole. This Session began with 44 new legislators and over 2,200 bills were filed including teacher pay increases, REAL ID reform, and the budget were among the top issues the State addressed this year.

Deadline Extended to July 28th To Submit Nominations For Mayor Of The Year, Innovations And Don Rider Awards
Have you submitted your nomination for someone you feel worthy of one of our awards? We would like to give just a bit more time to get more nominations for the MCO Mayor of the Year awards, the Innovations award, and the Don Rider award. Please submit your entries by Friday, July 28, 2017. The awards will be presented at the OML annual conference being held in Tulsa, September 12-14.

Reminder: Required July Notice
Due to end of the fiscal year, municipal officials must ensure that a special notice is published during the month of July. Please note, if your community has altered its fiscal year, you need to adjust the dates accordingly.  A more detailed description of this notice can be found  here .
OML Board Districts 2 And 11 Call For Nominations: Deadline July 21st
The Board seats representing Districts 2 and 11 on the Oklahoma Municipal League Board of Directors is up for election this year and will be voted on at the 2017 OML annual business meeting held during the OML annual conference in Tulsa, Thursday morning September 14, 2017.  The District 2 representative, Honorable Jason Nichols, Mayor for the City of Tahlequah, and the District 11 representative, the Honorable Richard Chapman, Vice-Mayor of the Town of Gage have both expressed a desire to continue serving their districts if reappointed.

If you are interested in being considered for one of these positions, please submit your letter of interest, resume, and an attested resolution to the OML offices at 201 N.E. 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73105, Attention: Nancee Morris, fax to 405-528-7560 or email to nancee@oml.org. Providing Money To Pay The Bills: The Importance Of The End Of The Fiscal Year Part 3
The end of the fiscal year, June 30, brings with it, due to the  Constitutional Debt Limitation , special legal requirements and concerns for municipalities as they close out one fiscal year and enter another.  Two weeks ago we discussed the details of the required public notice that must be published during the month of July due to 62 O.S. Section 310.4.  Last week we covered general legal principles of this complicated constitutional provision.  This week we will cover, from the 5,000 foot level the legal concept of an appropriation.  Read Article
Enid Regional Development Alliance Hosts Keynote Speaker Mike Fina at Annual Luncheon
On Wednesday, July 12th OML Executive Director Mike Fina spoke to the Young Professionals of Oklahoma as well as the Enid Regional Development Alliance at The Oakwood Country Club. Executive Director of ERDA Brent Kisling delivered his quarterly report to the crowd to open up the meeting. 2018 Legislative Request Form Print Or Online: Deadline August 4th
The 2017 Legislative Session is over and it is time to start the process of planning for the 2018 legislative session. OML values the perspective of all members on legislative concerns and we encourage city officials to participate in the process so we will be prepared to present a united legislative effort. Please print and complete the Legislative Request Form or complete the Online Legislative Request Form by August 4th. The OML Legislative Committee will be voting on the issues on Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00 a.m. at OML. If you submit an issue, we would love to have you attend the meeting on the 9th to present it to the committee.

2018 Transforming Local Government Call For Case Studies
The Alliance for Innovation has released the Call for Case Studies for 2018 Transforming Local Government (TLG) presentations (Apr 3-6, Tacoma, WA).  We encourage you to submit case studies. Submissions must be from a local government but you do not have to be a member of the Alliance. You could be chosen to be one of the approximately 25 case study presented at the conference. Applications are being accepted through September 1.  The selection committee is looking for your stories of success' (and failure) on programs, projects, services, and initiatives demonstrating creative and innovative practices.
