As we wrap up the final installment of the Senate newsletter for the 2016-17 academic year, we have worked hard and accomplished amazing things. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said, "Great is the art of beginning, but greater is the art of ending." As we close this term, the end of the year marks the end of one journey and the beginning of a new one. This is a great time for self-evaluation, to reflect on the achievements and progress over the past year. This is also a great time to start the process of improvement planning for the next. Effective self-evaluation encompasses a wide range of factors which will help all of us contribute and benefit the Faculty Senate.

At the Senate's May 8 meeting, Victoria Greene (College of Arts and Sciences) and Jeremy Wilson (Blair School of Music) were elected Chair-elect and Vice Chair-elect, respectively. They will join the Senate Executive Committee when their terms begin on July 1, 2017.

Also, we will bid farewell to Immediate Past Chair, Richard Willis (Owen Graduate School of Management), and Immediate Past Vice Chair, Ann Price (School of Medicine). It has been a special privilege to work alongside them. Many thanks to both of them for their guidance, friendship, and service.
