Patrick O'Brian Book Series Part 4
Wednesdays at 1:00pm, July 12-August 9
Join Harris Gruber as we take a closer look into THE MAURITIUS COMMAND, the fourth in the 20-book Aubrey-Maturin tales of Patrick O'Brian. We will meet at 1:00 PM each Wednesday through August 9th. We will use the early Norton edition of 348 pages.

These stories are among the finest crafted in historical fiction. If you are new to O'Brian's works, know that each of these tales can stand alone. The stories themselves are based on the British Navy's historical records of the early 1800's. The protagonists Captain Jack Aubrey and Surgeon Stephen Maturin take us to a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, where Napoleon's navy is raising 'Old Harry' with the East India Company's ships. The book is rich in prose and imagery with battle adventures, the natural sciences, the practice of medicine of the era, political intrigue and an epic romance. They are contain a wide range of characters, which feeds many discussions of personal relationships and frequent humor of every imaginable sort.
Our discussions are lively and it's the most fun you can have (reading) without a license!!

For questions and more information, contact the facilitator, Harris Gruber at [email protected]
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended at 401-625-6796.
